Upper Ball joints GT Vs Manta

So tryna update 'original looking' suspension bits. Rock-auto only shows 1 upper for a 74 GT, but plenty avail for a 74 Manta. Quandry, order the 1 and 1 from Manta? They *look the same? Any thoughts on interchange?

GT and Manta are different, as I recall. Rockauto listings are not consistent and you need to check each year, GT and Kadett. No GTs min 74.

Find the part number on Rockauto and check on Amazon and Ebay.

Kadett? I'm a new owner, are the undercar parts same as GT. Also, my new GT(that I've never seen in person) title says it's a 74. Is something amiss?

1973 models were the last of the GT's. Dealers started running low on inventory in the spring of that year, but if yours wasn't sold until the fall the dealer may have titled it as a 1974. As to your picture, the ball joint looks like a GT part (two mounting bolts, metal grease cap on top, etc, but without the dimensions it can't be said with absolute certainty.

68 and later 1.9 Kadett and 1.9 GT use the same parts, not sure if 1.1 used same front components. Manta/Ascona had a different type front suspension. The only thing up front that interchanges is hubs/bearings/brakes. Rear suspension is similar, virtually everything on/in the rear axle will interchange, except the torque tube, trailing arms and axle housing.

It would be worth your while to get a factory manual once you get your car. The 74 would probably be a typo (happens a lot) or a car sold in 74 (some states were kind of weird). When you get your car, check the vin numbers on the title and the car. If the numbers match, then it was a typo somewhere in registering in the past. I wouldn't say anything, just let it slide. If the vins do not match, then you might have a problem. There are two, maybe three vins on the car. One on the dash, one under the hood on a plate and some times one on a label on the door/doorjamb. The only one I'd worry about is the plate under the hood as the dashes and doors get swapped over 50 years.
