:banghead: HELP---I am in the middle of putting the engine in the car, I am doing this solo but I have the car jacked up about 27 inches in the front and 24 inched in the back, my rolling the engine/tranny under the car on pvc pipe worked pretty well until near the end then I muscled the engine and tranny under the rest of the way. I am hoisting the engine up and noticed two things, looks like the distributor will hit the steering rod and the intake manifold will nit the side of engine bay. Do I have to remove the intake manifold? HELP I only have tonight to get this in---at least its under the car now!!!!!
It would be a good idea to remove both manifolds and distributor for clearance and also to prevent damaging them in the install. It would be advisable however to tape the openings of the manifolds and distributor so nothing falls in the openings in the process
I have always done it with the intake/exhaust manifolds on, it's easier to torque the bolts when the engine is out of the car. I just remove that little nipple thing that screws into the intake manifold. I have also done it with the distributor on as well. It fits.
Got the engine in the car:banana: , removed the intake manifold and I was able to work it so the distributor and fuel pump did not get bumped or damaged. It took a lot of moving the hoist and jack back and forth, the thing I was most concerned about was lowering the car and not banging the fuel pump, water pump crank and distributor. So now the engine is in, but I have to take a closer look at some of the bolt threads on the engine crossmember.
True that. My favorite way is to use a front loader tractor. I would attach the chains to the motor, use the loader to support it, lower the engine to the ground. Then I would wrap the chains around the front crossmember and lift the car off of the engine and to the side.
Just rolled in from a business trip. Would have liked to seen that, you are gathering Opel MOJO every day. Just think back to your first post on the topic and the fact that people are going to be begging you for help!
