    Zetec engine and automatic transmission

Can the TH180 be used with a Zetec engine?

Offhand I would say definitely not without an adapter. In the UK there are companies that make adapters to turn the Zetec and use it in the rwd orientation, but they are mostly to attach t5's 5 speeds.
Might be something out there, but you also have to look at the sump and oil pump arrangement that is different FWD to RWD.

Chevy tranny on a Ford engine. Not likely. It's all about the bell housing bolt pattern. Of course, each manufacturer has designed their engines/trannies to only bolt to their own engines/trannies. There is essentially nothing out there to help you use TH180's on other cars. An adapter plate could theoretically be made, but the positioning of the center of the crankshaft with the center of the torque converter would have to be accurate to a millimeter or less.

OMC marine inboard motor to outdrive adaptor. Can be used to mate Ford 2.3 and Zetec to GM corporate trans, but might not be good for TH180. Does likely work for TH200.

Extremely doubtful anyone would make an adapter for this setup. However virtually any transmission and engine combination can be mated if you have the ability to make what you need. I've had a T-5 behind my Zetec and I'm currently running a Subaru 6 speed.

    Thanks

Thanks everyone. Still trying to figure out what to do with the GT. My 16 yr old son is taking it apart (with a little help).

Hello all. New to the page. Did you need an adapter to mount the subaru trans to the engine? Could you mount the AWD trans?
