Regular replacement parts, consumable/wear parts availability

Wondering if thereís a vendor I missed thatís the go to for parts for our opels? When I bought my Manta last year I didnít notice a lack of parts, like engine gaskets, tune up parts etc. until I started working on the ascona again in an attempt to get my old lady to want to keep it or at least make it worth a bit more to sell. But Iím wondering if I should just cut my losses and sell it now instead of continuing putting money in just to decide to sell cause I canít find an intake gasket or valve cover gasket in the future. My Manta is fine since itís becoming less and less Opel, except that windshield I need and canít find.

I donít see anything about vendors above my post, and I prefer local parts stores or rockauto if I have to. Just seems like parts are getting more scarce, thatís why Iím asking if there is a particular vendor you guys are going to for parts.

There isn't much you can buy for these cars without it being a special order anyway, might as way order it yourself.

Thanks, I dove into a decent size project but Iím not quite past the point of no return. I may be sketching myself out and over thinking it but I donít want to follow through with the project and end up having waisted time and money.

I don’t need anything right now but I was looking for an intake gasket, which I thought would be easy with maybe having to wait a day for the auto store to get it from there wherehouse but nope had to be ordered. Not fun when something as simple as an intake gasket is a hassle to get, I ended up ordering from rockauto and it said it was there last one. Thanks for the offer by the way

It is exhausting having to constantly search for even some of the simplest parts. It is a big part of Opeling. All the oldtimers will tell you that that was the drawback in the late sixties, early seventies to buying foreign cars. GM marketing said you could walk into any Buick parts counter and get what you need. The reality was that it took forever and was very expensive. The West coast faired better with Japanese supply lines, while European parts were more plentiful on the Eastern seaboard. The world as we know it was not this small and there was no Internet! Do not give up on your old lady's Ascona. It's a nice one. You're off to a good start and the rewards will outweigh your grief.

are you able to get your olds parts same day?

OGTS is almost better than buying from Autozone. Super fast shipping and specialists taking the order. they do nothing but opels.

    waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than rock auto.

Anything I would get for my olds at an auto parts store is either in stock or at the wherehouse, problem with Oldsmobile’s is aftermarket support. I guess I should be happy I can get parts in the US for the Opel, everything I need for the lancia comes from europe but I’ve hardly had to work on it.

Europe has a lot of Opel suppliers, America not so much. I recommend at least looking at the below sources to see what they have for classic Opels. Not listed below is eBay, it can be worth it to look at eBay here and eBay.uk and eBay.de as sometimes the international eBay listings have stuff you won't find here. For CIH parts in general, any of the below sources can provide you with parts for the engine family. I think the only things not being reproduced for the CIH is the block, heads, crank, valve covers and stock intake manifolds.
