It never ceases to amaze me how some PO can mess an Opel up with ridiculous modifications. It would be interesting to know how many original Opel GT owners there are and even what generation other Opel GT owners are, ie. 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc owner?

Attempted to remove the seats. They won't slide forward or back on the tracks so I can't access the bolt heads. Switched gears and removed the brake booster which took patience.
Have been digging out parts and gearing up to put my engine together, while I am dealing with some health issues that are going to prevent me from working at my job for a couple months.
Figured I better start putting together what I do have in hopes I can speed the process if and when I can ever get the body brought down (still back in my home state, couldn't bring it with right away when we moved) and cash to cover the parts and work I still need to do :sigh:
Aint gettin any younger and my wife and kids would be lost and clueless about what to do with the GT, tore down in a million pieces, if something were to happen to me. :ugh:
So may have some updates over the next few months,
we shall see. :nervous:

The GT got plenty of attention. Lots of high dollar vehicles: 3 GT 40's, scores of Porsches including two concours resto 356 C's, but only one Opel GT.
Bought the GT three weeks ago and Maria has been driving the snot out of it. But the days are getting shorter so she needs lighting. When we purchased the car the drivers side headlight didn't work, nor the drivers taillight and front marker or the passenger front turn signal. Reverse light doesn't work either but thats because the PO cut the wiring to the reverse switch when swapping trannys. So today I got all the lights operable except the reverse because I can't find where the PO terminated and wrapped the purple and white chassis wires going to the reverse switch. For the other lights, it was all about cleaning contacts and replacing the fuse for the tail light (thank goodness the PO gave us wiring diagrams). With daylight savings starting today I feel good about Maria driving home from work in the evening and having head and tail lights.
(I wish my Coronet was as responsive to troubleshooting and repair as the Opel).
Now that the front end is apart I'm cleaning and prepping everything for paint and rebuild ( need a big sand blaster for main carriage) but all the little stuff is coming along nicely. Here's all the past rusted a$$ bolts that came apart and I've cleaned thus far not to shabby for a newby garage guy.
Replaced both inside O ring and outside seal. The original seal on the right is a smaller OD and dropped into the housing. The new seal on the left from OGTS has a wider brim and it was a challenge to seat. Finished this evening so we'll take a test drive tomorrow.
Also replaced the filler neck grommet. Used a plastic trim tool to remove the old one.
The engine idle won't come down from ~1800 rpm so started looking for vacuum leaks. Found two: carb-to-intake gasket and vacuum advance hose.
The original vacuum hose, when removed and folded in half, split in two. Plus the original was running over the rocker cover and looked tacky. Got some new 7/32" hose.
Bought the thick carb gasket from OGTS; nice upgrade from the original. While disassembling the throttle linkage found this: PO fabbed up a Weber bracket; it doesn't impede the throttle however the bracket has to be bent back to release the linkage rod then bent back again after reattaching. It'll be replaced soon enough.
Eric, Awesome video. Question, are you running twin Webers? From the video it appears that you are. I have a set of Webers, Twin Weber 40 DCOE with the short intakes. I'd like to know how you set them up. Ie, linkage, jets etc. Thank you, JarrellQuote:
