    Factory GT Speaker Needed

    Hi All,

I did post this in the wanted forum, but thought I'd put it here too.

I need a factory speaker for my GT. Anyone have one kicking around?

Sorry, multiple threads on the same topic are discouraged, and threads that have no enduring value (i.e., are not technical) are not allowed in the Tech Forums. Now, if you had asked "what aftermarket speaker will replace the OEM speaker", then it might be allowed to stay in the Tech Forums...

I've moved this to the General Discussions Forum

I seriously doubt you could find one in any sort of condition to install, much less working. You should be able to find a decent car audio speaker to replace it with though.

Well, it looks like I'll need to go aftermarket. I'll report back. Hopefully I can find one that easily fits.

I guess if you only replace one speaker in the rear deck, for the AM radio.. If that still works too.
( Do they still have AM stations these days) or you just want it to look stock again?

FWIW I installed two 6" rounds in rear deck, and still had room to stow a 13" tire off the rim on the tire deck.
I removed the Rear deck pan and cut out the holes for the speakers, makes life easier that way
    Good luck
    MIKE

Still have a few AM stations here, but I am going to use an AM transmitter attached to my phone. Not HiFi, but I want it to be as stock as possible.

    @SiliconTi,

I did have a factory speaker but it was so old & poor I threw it out, but It was easy to find a brand new 6'' (oval). Anyway I do have a one extra piece of metal mesh that covers the speaker.

If you need that part and can't source it I'll be happy to send it over the pond (snail mail).

    Cheers.

Early '80s mid-sized cars ; Citation, Phoenix, Omega & Regal , and likely other GM cars at the time
used almost the same size speakers as Opels in the rear package tray.
They were also the correct Ohms / Resistance ( 4 ohms IIRC ) for Opel GT radios.
There are probably fewer of those cars in U-Pull yards now then when I found 2 almost new ones years ago.

I am not a radio or electrical expert but was told that incorrect ohm speaker could burn out something in radio.
Especially important at higher volume. Ohms usually stamped on back of speakers.

    Thanks all.

The GT speaker is 10 Ohms, so is a bit hard to find. I did find what measures to be a drop in here:

    Classic Car Speakers

    Though it is expensive.

I have one coming from a forum member, so, hopefully in a few days I'll have it back together again.

    Thanks to all!

Looks like I didn't remember the correct ohms, but I do remember that the speakers I mentioned were correct for GT.
.....Haven't looked at one of those speakers in almost 10 years.
That speaker site looks good and specific , more costly than Radio Shack , could be better speakers too. Bookmarked it.
