Can someone help me identify this Opel GT? Should I buy?

Can someone help me identify this Opel GT? I have been going through many of the identification charts & articles however I am still unsure as to the age of this Opel that I am looking to buy. From what I can tell it looks like either a '69 or maybe a '68???

History: This car has just popped up on my radar and I will hopefully be taking a look at it in person today or tomorrow. Other than that I know that this car has been sitting in a garage for the past 25 years, and does not have a title (though applying for a lost shouldn't be too difficult).

From the pictures is looks like there was some bondo work done to the rear of the car, due to the crack just forward of the rear lip. However there looks to be no indention for the license plate. It could have very well been a bondo job or rear replaced by fiberglass entirely? Here is where I have to defer to the experts in Opels as I am not one.

That being said, once I see it face to face I will take more pictures, and go from there. Also, just judging from the pictures alone, should I buy this? What would I expect to offer them?

    Thanks for the help!

It says 1969, I see it is in Morristown. Its not a 68, since it is an automatic, they were available 69 and later

Has rear GM badge which is 69-70 only, so either pop out windows added or emblem added. Possibly looks like a flat rear panel

Looks to have had a paint job. Maybe rear end damage replaced with 69 panels?

I wouldn't go past $3k based on these pictures. If it was me, I'd probably try $1,500 and see where it goes from there. If they want more than $3k, I'd walk away and stop wasting everyone's time with a pointless negotiation.

I see some rust on the rear trim area, and I'm betting there is more on this car. While autos are relatively rare, unless the car is pristine I devalue a GT for having one.

Front and rear window rubbers are solid and do not have the slots for the chrome strip so it has been worked on.

I'd say it's been whacked in the rear. The grooves that normally run between the quarter and rear deck have been filled and it looks like the rear molding is gone. Hard to see but the reverse lens is gone as well. Have a real close look.

Best bet on understanding the car is to get the serial number off the chassis plate that is located up near the intake vent on the passenger side, under the hood. Get the information from that plate and you will know the model year, the color and the interior trim. Windows, emblems and panels plus other work could have been added, subtracted or modified over time. My '71 GT has a 1969 engine and, at one time, the interior was gutted and a 1969 red replacement was installed that became black -- the dash was re-covered and the seats were painted with black vinyl paint, with black carpeting laid over the red on the dashmat panel behind the seats.
