    Even better than a birthday!

Birthdays are special but this is even better.

As of Friday I will be officially retired after 33 years at Chrysler! (the Daimler is silent, especially now ).

Of course I couldn't wait so I haven't worked for the last 3 weeks After all, there will only be one summer of 2007!

I look forward to seeing many of you in Springfield in Sept.

    Don McLean

    Don;
When the day comes, you have to do two things, (1) throw your watches/clocks away, and (2) throw your calendars away, WHY? You have no need for them...

Don, take it from a guy that's been "retarded" for over 6 years. You gotta keep busy or lethargy sets in. Aso, I've never worked so hard when I was "working". All those things you were gonna do can now be done. One thing I really appreciate, now, is that I was finally able to get out of bed, after the sun got up.

Congratulations Don! I am happy for you. I am surely enjoying my half time work and I know you will enjoy your retirement too. See you in Springfield and most likely in my Manta!

I noticed Monday at school/work here that the Daimler Chrysler banner was hanging down on one corner, covering part of the Chrysler portion of it. I looked today, and it was replaced by "Daimler Benz Aktiengesellschaft " Enjoy your retirement, I've got years to go.

Congrats, Don! Uh, any relation to the "American Pie" singer?

Grew up in Lake Orion myself after immigrating here from Holland in '54, family lived at the same address there from '54 to '96, when Mom finally moved to Henry Ford Village retirement village in Dearborn. Younger brother and oldest sister still live in MI. Thanks for the memories . . .

spelled out of course, I figure unless they decide upon a new name sometime soon, it might be replaced by a new banner. According to official news sources (I dont know anything about it) Daimler AG is under consideration as is the original Daimler Benz AG. There's quite some argument going over it, I feel it should be Daimler Benz again to pay homage to the original owners (Well, we should include Wilhelm Maybach in there too, he had an important part in it)

Don McLean (dcm013) is, the thread author (first poster) . . . and it just happens to be the name of the "American Pie" (1971) singer as well, even spelled exactly the same!

The same thing struck me too regarding American Pie. I just didn't want to show my age. But since I'm not old enough to retire yet, it's not like I'm really really old. Really old.

Hey, congratulations to you on your eminent retirement, and congratulations to all you really really old people that are already retired. (Hell, I've got top soil in my yard that's not even 50 yet. And it's pretty worn out!)

Actually, I'm ready to retire any year now myself, just waiting until the 30-year mortgage is paid off - and you know what Bay Area house prices are like. I can afford the house, I just can't afford it and the gasoline to get home.

Don, hope its been a good ride so far, and I hope you've got some good road ahead. Happy Opeling.

    Don,
CONGRATULATIONS on your retirement!! After a long career with Chrysler, I'm sure it will be great to set your own schedule and agenda without the daily grind getting in the way. How exciting for you! I hope your boys are doing fine, and I'm looking forward to seeing you in Springfield again!
