The print version of the Oct-Dec issue should be in people's mailboxes by now. (The PDF version went out weeks ago.)

Along with the Blitz I put a decal in the envelope. Don't throw it out with the envelope!

The first 2018 issue of The Blitz is ready and should be in people's inboxes within the hour. Allow a little more time before the print version shows up in your mail box.

In this issue, Mike Meier's conclusion to the Tinyvette's Cannonball and several excellent articles from Kyler Norman and Gordon Payton on single-DCOE installations and Gordon's article on front sway bar mounts. Kyler also compiled a list of tires available for stock-sized wheels.

This is the last issue before the 50th Anniversary of the Opel GT celebration. It includes a couple of checklists attendees will find useful.

Well it certainly took more than an hour to get this out. Synchronizing the membership list with the mailing list is a tedious process. But, this issue finally is out.

Thanks, Kyler and Gordo for your articles.

    Index

Something I started on long ago and worked on now and then... an index to articles in The Blitz. The last one was done in 2010. I'll eventually get it all in one place but for now here' )attached) is what I have to the most recent issues.

I know I needed this. I hope you all find it useful.

Update index attached. It goes back to late 2012 when I took over The Blitz.

    Hey Mike,

If I joined OMC at the 50th, should I have received an email by now about it?

    Thanks.

You should have. One of the first things I did when I got home was take care of new sign-ups. That included emails and mailing the most recent print version of The Blitz. Let me check my records. Check your spam filters.

I'm sorting through photos now, several thousand, coming up with a short list, still well over 100.

Here's (attached) the current candidate for the cover.

I'm selecting photos for The Blitz, going through photos from Gil, Kurt, Maurice, Louis, Cora, Roy, and myself, a total of 9,425 photos (58 GB), 6,400 (31 GB) of that from Gil alone. This is going to take a while.

Roy is sending me a CDROM containing even more photos. We'll see if it arrives in time.

Today I sent out a reminder to folks who want to comment on the 50GT event. About 1/3 had responded, which I guess is a good response rate for this crowd.

I need to bug Gordo to see if he was serious about doing a write-up on his independent 50GT tour.

Paul Tipton's article on his recent "Opel on my lawn" event might get bumped to the next issue so this one can focus 100% on the 50GT event.

I expect this issue will be pushing past 60 pages, maybe to 80. It's at 44 now. It'll depend on how many photos I load it up with.

Mike if you find any pics you want of mine from the 50th photo thread, you’re welcome to use them.

It was great to meet everyone I did for the first time.

Thanks. I've got 100 (out of over 9,000) picked out now. This issue is full, unless you have a crazy-fantastic photo, in which case, exceptions can be made.

This issue is at 88 pages now, with a few more pages coming in soon. A typical issue is 40-44 pages, so this one is double that. In a feeble effort to keep the budget from exploding I'll be calling this a double issue and will skip the next one.

I realize that a number of people who were at the 50GT event are not members but might like to get a copy, so to save time and effort and cost I'll make this one available for purchase from the printer. Cost will be around $20 each, plus postage.

Meanwhile, OMC's treasury has been steadily shrinking. This, and possible remedies, will be a topic for the Oct-Dec issue. In the mean time I'll be inserting a note with this issue about this topic, asking for input before the next issue comes out.

I'm not sure if I would call them crazy-fantastic, but I think I'm the only one who took panoramic shots of the cars... any of the below pics might work well for a banner with a title. I snapped these while the driver's meeting was happening, so no one was outside to get in the shot. I think the 2nd pic below is the most fitting for an OMC article banner on the 50th.

Currently subscribed for .pdf files of the Blitz.
I will buy a printed copy of 50GT OMC BLITZ for approx. $20.00 plus postage via PayPal.
Provide a link and I will email the amount. Postage cost?

Could you sell some copies on eBay?

Mike, obviously it's something you plan on talking about in this issue and the end of the year issue, but if you're running into money problems behind the Blitz... maybe it's time to consider going digital only or maybe the Blitz needs to run more advertising. Regular magazines have to run a lot of ads to compensate for the cost of running a magazine. I noticed only a single page with both OGTS and Opels Unlimited in the July-Sept 2017 issue. Maybe Splendid Parts and Suselbeek would want to join OMC and advertise?

How many OMC members are digital only? I had signed up for digital only, thinking that it would be the most effective way to help OMC. How many members are there that get printed copies?

It's nice to have a printed copy of the Blitz, but for a late-comer like me there really isn't a way I could build a library of printed Blitz issues. So, I'm looking towards doing a digital library of back issues.

The digital-only option has been discussed. Every member we have email addresses for gets one, but records on Mail Chimp show that at best only 1/2 of them ever open the email, much less click a link. We've also got a number of long-time members who do not go online, or rarely do so.

We have a little over 100 print subscribers.

Other options are: reduce page count, find a cheaper printer, and go back to black/white. The other is to raise membership rates. For print subscribers it is $45/year, and that rate was set back in 1999.

A couple of years ago I ran the numbers to see if we could afford staying with color prints, and they came out with us breaking even. Since then printing and postage costs have gone up. Meanwhile membership is slowly declining. I'll pull the actual numbers together for the Oct-Dec issue.

The Blitz is pretty much the only thing OMC does anymore, with the possible exception of hosting the nationals every five years.

    OMC Blitz Thread

I think the website needs to be updated a lot! It needs a way to go onto the OMC website and add a membership to a shopping cart along with omc goodies like stickers and t-shirts. I would pay $5 for an OMC sticker, buy 2 t-shirts , etc. If OMC would make a good enough storefront you could have people donate items to be bid on! The proceeds would go to OMC. I don’t think OMC even has a donation page? That could be added to the site easily! Do it in a kickstarter style with different levels of rewards. A $1 donation gets a thank you. $5 gets a sticker. $10 gets your car’s photo in the blitz. $25 gets you a full page photo. $50 gets you a rusted Opel gt etc...

Also I’d be happy to be an officer. I’ve done pretty well with the Facebook group I run and such. It might help to have a designated social media person I guess.
