    TalkingNew GT Owner

I just bought a 1971 Opel GT a few weeks ago. I have wanted one of these for several years and I have been casually looking in the papers and such for a while. I finally found one for sale Locally in the Denver area so I bought it. It is silver and in really good condition. It needs some work, but that is to be expected. Firsts things on my list are to fix an oil leak from the oil pan gasket and the Trans pan gasket. Then I am tackling the electrical gremlins that keep my gauges moving all over the place.
Anyway I think this site is a wonderful place for all kinds of great information.

    Welcome to the fold, Agrieve.

Have you posted any pictures yet of your car?

You should enjoy the help available here. There's more knowledge here now, than when Opels were sold originally.

    Enjoy!

Agrieve, check the brown wires that are held in place at the fuse panel bolts. They are your instrument panel grounds. If they are loose your gages will be all over the place in their indications as the wires make and break contact.

No pictures yet. Well, I have a few, but I have to resize them yet. I will check those wires first thing. Could they also affect the speedometer? It was all over the place too, so I thought the cable was bad. I replaced the cable, but it still doesn’t work.

its probably the speedometer its self, alot of members have problems with them, altho i never have. by the sounds of it, they tear them down and fix them, or buy used ones off other members, i think i sold one for 10-15 bucks a couple weeks ago, and i have another with calibration number W=1062 if your interested.
