    TalkingNew Opeler

Hello everyone, I just picked up a yellow/ red interior 1969 Opel GT. It is 100% original, but it is kind of rusted mainly on the rocker panels and around the floor pan. I just spent half a day trying to get the rear wheels moving, so I loosened the E-brake, and tried to adjust the rear brake shoes but I couldn't figure out how . Any way I ended up taking the drum off, and I still couldn't figure it out( Keep in mind I have little to no mechanical experience) Anyway thanks to the search feature, I now know how to adjust them . Just wnated to let everybody know!!

    Welcome to the list-
Word of caution- make sure you check the rear brake fluid line. The rubber of the line will swell up if it has set for awhile and act like a one way valve. It lets the fluid into the brakes but won't release the pressure so the brakes are set permanently until you relieve the pressure. Auto zone and other auto retailers carry the replacement or check with OGTS

    Hi Green,
Where from in Anderson Township? I grew up near Salem and Sutton and went to Anderson when the GTs were new. Kinda like when dirt was new I guess.

    Holy Crap

Heh, I live in Anderson Township, but I am keeping the car up in Amelia. If all goes well I will try and start her tommorrow. I never knew that there are opelers so close . Anyway the brakelines hve to be replaced anyway because I don't think it is good when you hit the brake pedel and brake fluid comes squirting out of the lines Also hopefully I will be able to take some pics by this weekend and post them!

    Let me suggest:
    1) squirt some oil in each cyclinder
    2) flush the radiator, block and heater box (use the highest hose)
    3) change the oil & filter
    4) if you smell laquer in the gas tank, try to pump it out (they make something for that) and put a couple of gallons of high test in (you may have to put in a additive if the head wasn't setup for lead-free).
    5) make sure the pack-rats didn't eat wires (if it was sitting out for a while)
    AND........
