History
discovered by the Germans in 19 something er other (clearing throat)... okay so my wife and I found this beauty in October 2011 in a salvage yard where it sat for years. It took a direct hit in the drivers side but suffered no frame damage. We decided that this would be a great project to help bring our family back together after multiple deployments and a more recent MEDEVAC from Afghanistan. So, as a part of recovery, and getting back into the automotive hobby, we picked picked it up in February 2012. It's first actual real road test was when I drove it 24 miles one way to work.

As of FEB 2013, I'm happily using the Opel as my daily driver, getting somewhere around 25 MPG, and able to achieve 90 MPH with no problem what so ever. Handles beautifully on curves and stops very well. The acceleration is night and day compared to its first trip some 6 or 7 months ago. I have since pulled the engine at least three times to tinker with one thing or another and have had the immense pleasure of involving my children who are all becoming budding gear heads themselves now. In fact, the wife just got her own project on Valentines Day 2013.... a 1973 VW Super Beetle!
