1.5 Cam?

Was the cam in a 1.5 different from the stock 1.9 cam? I'm still trying to sort out "The Beast" and a found a cryptic note in the seller's pile of paperwork that said "street performance camshaft from Opel 1.5 litre engine = higher lobe lift and greater duration". Any info would be appreciated.

A 1,9 liter engine makes around 47 hp/liter, a 1,5 liter one makes around 43 hp/liter, so no, I don't think a 15S cam is hotter than a 19S one.

Hmmm, I looked at my list and noticed the 1.5S isn’t listed, so I’m not sure.

Can you see the letter stamped on the rear of the cam by any chance? If it’s a ‘A’ then it’s no different than the normal 1.9solid lifter cam.

The CIH cams are easiest to identify by a stamped letter at the rear end of the cam. K=20S
R=20E
M=22E
U=C24NE
C=19E
D=19SH
A=19S,17S.
B=19US (hydraulic)

Is it on the very end (the round "butt" end, or on the surface of the cam itself? I'll see what I can see.

I thought this was a 1.5 cam. I see an H stamped on it but there's no mark at the end and it's an earlier cam with a solid lifter oil channel.

But here it is, FWIW.

If this isn't a 1.5 cam, I still have one in my garage that's been reground. I just have to remember where I put my regrinds.

He said "rear", which could have meant the end (as in his subsequent pictures) or on the rear of the cam (as in FO81's pictures).

Thanks Bob. That clears it up for me. I'll see if I can get a look at it, but I have my doubts.
For posterity, I opened up an NOS 1965-1970 1.9S camshaft box that I own, and took these pics.

Here's are pics of the end. No letter stamped on it that I can see.

There will be numbers cast into the shaft. Can you get to those to see what they are?

I didn't see any at all. Must be a super-secret "stealth" cam.

Hard to see with the cam in the head. They're there.

No matter how I go at it, I can't find any numbers. If they are there, pulling the cam would probably be the only way to see them - and I'm not willing to do that - yet!

That's the only way to see them. Pulling the cam is easy. Resetting the valves isn't that hard either.
