The Rover and MGB v-8 is the same motor. (GM sold the molds and tooling to British Layland in the late '60's.) Even the transmissions will work, as wall as any other transmission with the standard BOP bolt pattern. Why work on a 40 year old motor when you can get a 5 year old one from a junk-yard, possibly with a warranty?
Offenhauser still makes a 4BBl intake manifold for the motor, and the Brit's have some really cool quad 2BBL manifolds for the motor too, in either down draft or cross-ram sidedraft form. I've even seen some cast 4-71 blower manifolds for that motor, and someone is now making a complete kit for the motor with the new Holley 144 blower. Wouldn't that cost a few sets of rear tires?
What's really ironic is that the guy selling the engine, Gary Swaim, is an Opel guy from way back. He has (or had) an Opel Senator, and various Manta's, and Kadett's over the years. In fact, two of my east coast friends bought cars from him in San Diego. Small world....
