This is my first post so if this seems redundant please let me know and if this info is out there where can find it.

My son and I have just started restoring a 1969 GT with the 1.1 engine. This forum has been a great help determining where to look and what to look for to tell for sure that is all original parts etc. I would however like to compile a list of contacts and car information of people that have 1.1 1969’s. I guess what I am trying to say is I would like to start (if it doesn’t exists) a 1969 Opel GT 1.1 registry. Here is what I would like to include:

Your name and what state you are in

How long you have owned your car

Vin #

Paint code

Current paint color

Interior color

Engine SN

Unique markings to 1969 like

Indented area around the rear plate

What number is on the speedometer?

What date code is on the back of the gauges

If you could think of any other information that would be specific to 1969 GT 1.1 I would like to hear from you.

Paint code 15 would be British Racing Green, so you are correct about the original color on yours. I have one with the same paint code that was repainted metallic blue during the 1980s, but not under the hood so you can still see the original color. Interior code 701 is Saddle Tan, which was unique for 1969 being replaced by 721 Buckskin in later years. I believe Saddle Tan was only offered with British Racing Green cars, but I'll defer to the experts on that.

Unique markings to 1969 like

What date code is on the back of the gauges: Unknown

Miscellaneous Notes: I am the verified 3rd owner, all in Idaho. Car sold new in Spokane WA. 2nd owner bought it in 1975 as a 50th birthday present for herself. Had original engine rebuilt and repainted in non-original colors in the early 1980s. Car was retired and garage stored in 1992 (when she bought a new Mazda Miata). I bought from her in August 2006. All original except for paint. Totally rust-free car thanks to dry Idaho climate.

Another one saved!

Congratulations with your purchase. I see it was British Racing Green with Buckskin interior. I bought the GT 1100s from Jason Barkmeier and Mike Trout and another 1100 grey/red from Massachussets. I also have a Belgian 1100 in restoration from 1970, but I needed a complete one again as an example since I put the restoration aside ten years ago. In the time I bought my GT's, 3 1100 US-GT's were sold in parts. So these are at least 6 less in the US, from the 342 sold. I wonder how many of them are still alive and in the US?

I emailed Opel to get more information on our '69 GT. After forwarding my email to a few different departments I received this info:

Vehicle Identification Number 931866748
Vehicle Type Opel GT
Model Code 93288
Engine Type 1,1 SR
Engine Number 0062635
Production Date 19.07.1969
Exterior Colour Code 15
Exterior Colour British green
Cushion Code 701
Cushion Colour beige
Cushion Type synthetic leather
Ordering Dealer Number DE0800
Ordering Dealer Name Autohaus Memmel
Ordering Dealer City Kemnath
Registration Document No Data
First Registration Date No Data
Transmission Type MT-4 Sport
Steering Type Left Hand Drive

It's good confirm it has the original engine and to have the build date now, but the weird part is the ordering dealer. I looked them up and they are still an Opel dealer in Germany. Why would the ordering dealer be in Germany if it was a US car?

I guess the first owner was a soldier in Grafenwoehr near Kemnath.
Grafenwoehr is a great US-Garnision in Bavaria.

USAG Grafenwoehr
And he orderd the car with all US-Standards to take it home:yup:

Greetings
Norbert
