That is Ron Jacque's Opel GT. He has mused about selling this past year, but it appears he is now serious. IIRC, it is a Charles Goin 2.7 CIH, and has a lot of impressive modifications.

That is a nice car! I love the front and rear spoilers on it! That is like a dream opel there with the engine and trans!
Charles posted on the auction thread, giving some details on the build.

Car has a lot going for it. I would have to add a muffler or resonator or something to get the sound a bit more mellow.
There is a new listing for a 1971 Opel GT in Ontario with a 2.7L Opel fuel injected engine and some mods. Very nice looking car.

2.7L-Powered 1971 Opel GT 5-Speed for sale on BaT Auctions - ending October 17 (Lot #87,693) | Bring a Trailer
Here is the thread where we were talking about it:
I give kudo's to people that do all of these type of modifications. It becomes a very "personal thing" and very difficult sometimes to get a return on your investment because it is a "personal thing". There is an insane amount of work involved for some of these engine modifications. I started but then traded a project that I wish I would have finished. The wheel base on a GT and a VW Bug Sedan are the same. Even the center tubes are similar. I mounted a GT body on a VW Bug base, but then traded it for a truck I wanted. Never tried another one, but always think about that project and how it would have came out. Nice modified GT, the seller should do well. I wish him the best.

With you project were you going to keep the Vw engine? It would be kind of like a Bradley GT!

Yes I had a type 4 2.0L in it out of a Porsche 914. I have a Bradley GT 2 in my garage now. Talk about a PITA to work on. It was a factory build by Bradley Automotive and needs a total restoration. Several PO mods are ticking me off as well as some really dumb engineering back in the 80's. Having a ton of WTF moments, and even more, "I'll get that off later" events.

I always wanted to see how a rear engine Opel GT would handle and the VW bug chassis from the same era had so many things in common. If you take the rear seat out of a bug and compare it to the behind the seat area of the GT you will see they are similar. As was the center tube, chassis width and length. Problems were in the wheel height clearance both front and rear and that is where I stopped. The bug is bouncier and has more front and rear tire movement which requires more clearance. They do make air shocks for the bug which would have helped. But someone younger and with more ambition wanted it more than me so we made a trade.

It's down to the fingernail biting time. I had to miss this part of my auction, but it looked to be very exciting. I think he will do well.

You are right. Heck the driveline probably almost cost that much!
Wow! That guys just got the deal of the century At $12,500! That was way to cheap! If only I was older and had a job.lol
Wow, 12,500.00 makes you wonder what kind of issues did this GT have, I mean based on the engine and transmission, etc and the fact that it just looks so good I was thinking 20+. What am I missing.....

I think part of the problem was that it is in Canada. A lot of people didn't want to deal with shipping.
This car sold for $12,500. A bargain for this car. A 2.7 CIH? I wonder if the fact it is in Canada was a detriment due to issues with importation to the US? Other similar cars recently sold for much more money. Maybe the customization was a factor? Anytime you customize a car, you narrow down the appeal of it to some degree.

My grandpa and I really liked the look of the car and the rear spoiler. But maybe not everybody likes those improvements.
I text-chatted with Ron (the seller) this afternoon. He is somewhat disappointed at the price. He had set a reserve, and now thinks he set it too low. But the problem seems to be that he only had two bidders at the end, and both were Canadian. The Yanks just didn't show up, for reasons unknown. The borders are open, and it is quite easy to import cars (and trucks) from Canada into the US. In fact, we now have a shortage of used pickup trucks, as they are all going state-side.

The good news is that the Canuck buck is quite weak compared to the $USD. So at current exchange rates of $1.38CAD /$USD, the price is actually $17k CAD. Still light by a couple grand, but not catastrophic.
Bingo. It is not difficult at all to bring an antique car from Canada.

$12,500 is a bargain for that car.

Swapping the front transverse spring for cool overs raised my eyebrows. While it may be a very worthwhile change, it has to be done correctly or it's gonna be problems.
Without knowing who did the build, it's a big question mark.
