Engine

Does anyone know if it is possible to put in a 1991 Ford Escort (1.9) into a 1970 GT. (I know with time and money all is possible.) I guess what i'm asking is would it be easy or a royal pain in the dove-tail? How much would i have to convert or should i stay with the original 1.9?

if you want to put the 1.9 CVH in a gt then try to find a merka(sierra){i think thats what they are called in US }as it is allready RWD the box will line up with the shifter hole and the dissy is on the front of the engine not the back
electricaly you need about 10 wires out of the ford harness for the ignition cpu and some ancilerys
fab a set of engine and box mounts do a switch over pipe to get the exaust onto the other side and have a prop shaft made up to match
you will also need the electric cooling fan as the CVH dose not use one
if you go ahead pm me and i'll send you a diag with the wires you need to take out
its so much of a pain to do the escort as the box ,crank, flywheel and ignition all need to change

Beware of the Merka, Merkur, Sierra in the states. It is not the same internally and the euro versions. Like everything, we lost out on having a good car here because we used our own engine.

the states version is the same as the mustang and thuderbird 4 cyl. 2.3 with a turbo. this has been done and can be found on this site. It is a big performance improvement due to the turbo.

Now, Baz can you just ship us some of the sierra drivetrain over here, we'd all smile.
