Hi,

This is my first post to the group and my question is ...

I was looking into purchasing a 2.4 engine with closed loop fuel injection for my GT but wanted to know if there are performance or manufacturing differences between the years they were manufactured? Power, design, materials, FI system, etc?

I know production stopped in 1996 but I am not sure when they were first produced. I am guessing sometime in the 70 say 74?

Are there years that are more desirable than others: power, reliability, quality(forged), etc.

Also, what years and what cars were they in? I am familiar with the Frontera and Omega but don't know what years? Are there other cars these engines were manufactured with?

Thanks in advance.

Francis

P.S. I'll post some of the pics from my GT on this site sometime this summer - I think the group would enjoy it!

Hi Bob,

Thanks for answering my question so quickly.

I am familiar with the many differences between the 1.9 and 2.4 block but I was curious to know if there were performance manufacturing differences between the 2.4 liter blocks (amongst themselves). Again, regarding internal parts, performance, quality, forgings vs. casting, ECM, FI system, etc.

I haven't heard of one year 2.4 liter being superior to another year, but I do not know. I also don't know if some of the 2.4s put out more HP stock than other years. And, what years are these, if there are 2.4 liter years that are more desirable.

I've been working with Gil for my parts for the last couple years - he's great and he has been a wealth of knowledge as are many of the group members on this site. I know he's on vacation now, so I thought I'd post this question to the group and see where it goes.

Again, thanks Bob for answering my question.

Francis
