Hello everyone!

i am working on my 70 opel gt and i just bought a complete opel omega A 2.4
What would be the best option to go.
swap 2.4 engine and figure out what to use for fueling it.
Or keep 2.4 bottom and install 1.9 or 2.0 head on it (with bigger valves?)
I would like to keep the carburetor, or if not then go with megasquirt.
So my question is what would you do if you have 1.9 2.4 and 2.0 engine and you want to make one engine?
I will use some aftermarket cam to get some more hp out of the 2.4

If you want to keep the carb. then you have no choice but to use the 1.9 or 2.0 head. I would do a search for head modifaication on this forum (there is a lot of good information on the subject( RallyBob has done a lot of flow bench work on these heads) and room is limited in the GT engine compartment so a carb. in my opinion is the way to go with a Weber 38 being my weapon of choice:haha:

Modifications & adaptors aligning a 1.9 manifold to a 2.4 head

Modifications can be performed and adaptors can installed to align a 1.9L manifold to fit a 2.4 head.
Given a sledge hammer, cutting torch, lathe, milling machine and a tig welded YOU I am sure could get that job done. And if a bullfrog had pockets, he would carry a pistol to keep the snakes off his butt:yup::lmao: But I don't think the average owner has all of those tools at their disposal, and I'm sure the bullfrog will more than likely become a gormet meal for Mr. no-sholders.

Some say a pin hole relocation and small metal weld will do the job.

Others advocate consultation with a voodoo priest.

I have a set of DSD manifolds that I purchased second hand a couple of months ago that are supposedly modified to fit both types of head. The only modification that seems to have been done is to make a second set of "cut outs" (not entirely sure what you would call them in English) for the bolts. I don't have access to a 2.2/2.4 head so I can't confirm that this modification works or not but if it does, and the person I bought them from claimed to have used them on a 2.2 head, it would seem that it's a very easy modification that most people would be able to do with some careful measurements, a drill and a Dremel ..... and some patience

May be worth looking into

then it should be better idea to use 2.4 head and not to start rebuilding and installing bigger valves to 1.9 head.
What about the exhaust manifold? to use 2.4 or original 1.9 manifold.

I think either way,1.9/2.0 intake,exhaust manifolds,especially head would choke down that nice engine.

We have a member with Manta.Engine is 2.4,but the intake,exhaust and Ecu is from 2.0L Jetronic.That isn't the right way how to "upgrade" a car.Maybe bit more torque in low rews,that's about it.

If You can't find 3.0intake manifold,search for sidedraft manifolds ebay.de.
Go for programmable Ecuwon't have to moan for Dcoe fuel consumption.

Do it right at first attempt.

Kummel, why not just use the 2.4 head. You can put a 1.9 exhaust and intake manifold on it with little modification, then get a Weber DGAS 38. More than enough umph to get you car going. Keep it simple, you will never be sorry.

thank you for all the good advice.
Next question would be what cam to use, before i have used Enem x10 for 2.4 setup, but that was with megasquirt and 6sil cut manifold. With opel rekord C body i got 7.9sek to 62mph.
i need it to be torque not for high rpm. Next plans would be to find a 5 speed gearbox and figure out something with the rear axle, because already i have a lot of wheel spin.
And i plan to use the car in the winter rally here so i need 2wd and strong rear axle.
My idea was to try volvo 2 series axle and some fwd wheels.
Any one has tried to install Opel omega small LSD to opel GT? i did it for rekord C rear axle but that was bigger than GT if i remember correctly.

thats my main thing to be in the winter rally it is usually at the end of vebruary so it is cold and is about 300-400km and lasts about 10-12h. because gt is so light and low on traction i need some ideas how to get some more traction.

About 17 years ago, we got 100cm of snow one day. My GT was the only car that could drive on that much fresh snow because it was so light and had wide tires it would not sink into the snow. For two days I drove to the food store to get supplies for my neighbors because their cars were too heavy to go through soft snow.

So, how about very, very, wide tires for you?

Or those tires with the spikes that Russian motorcycle ice racers use?

I would suggest to use with narrow tyres(better driveability) with spikes(better traction) in them.
This is a cheap way:



Haven't tried them myself.But this is one of the winter seasons goals-find a lake.Perfect for these tyres.
