These were the first of the Mountain Run. Was cool we had some police escort service out of town.
Is that the same as being "run out of town"?

Wow!

Georgia guys! What a great National show! Fantastic! The mountain run was super! Thanks to Steve and the rest of the Georgia gang for putting on such a great show! Hopefully, we can do these mountain runs again!

Terry and I got lost somewhere in the Georgia mountains coming home but eventually found our way back to Charlotte! So we arrived safe! Hope everyone else did as well! It was good seeing old friends and meeting new ones!

I have a "phone video" of the flyover. I'll see if I can post it here later!

Thanks again!

Back home

Kerri and I rolled into the driveway at 8:55 EST, close to my estimate at about 11 1/2 hours. We added 1800 miles to the Manta's odometer and passed through eight states in the round trip. Part of that mileage was due to our stretching out the event by two days spent in Helen, GA where we enjoyed the Southern/German setting and hiked some nearby waterfall trails.

We want to thank the Georgia Opel Club for hosting a great national event, and I must say they have raised the bar. The event was very well organized and coordinated, yet there was plenty of time to relax and enjoy, "Southern style". One moment I enjoyed was the impromptu GP racing start from the grocery store parking lot. You have to be a little obnoxious once in a while. The mountain run was great fun, and we still had plenty of time to park and socialize afterward. I didn't miss the car judging routine at all. It was just nice to talk to people and look at the cars. BBQ dinner was very good and we enjoyed the evening's festivities. All in all it was a first class event. I look forward to seeing these folks as well as the usual suspects at next year's events, especially Springfield.

Haven't had time to look at all the posts yet, but I changed my plan for stopping overnight along the way and got back home to MI in a little under 12 hrs despite half a dozen or more stops to "stretch my legs" and/or get gas (damn small Manta tanks!). I put on over 1500 miles over the weekend and had lots of fun. Always great to see old friends and meet some new ones as well.

The GA Opel Club did an absolutely fantastic job in organizing this event! Police escort, mountain run, even a helicopter flyover thanks to one of our own fellow Opel owners serving to protect our freedom and a hell of a nice guy as well.

Again, many thanks to the organizers for a great weekend.

Connie and I got back to Springfield about 5:30 this evening for about 11 hours travel time. I think we clocked a little over 1300 Mi. round trip. The Ascona continues to be a great ride.

Like everyone else I have to tip my hat to the GA. folks. They have every right to be big time proud of this weekend. If you were not there you missed a really special event. I'm not sure even the videos convey what a great day Saturday was. Just the drive into Blairsville was great. The mountain run was topping on the cake. I have often said each Opel event has it's own flavor. The flavor down south is sweet and zesty. Right time, right place, right folks putting on the show.

home safe and sound

Lisa and I pulled up at 11;45! We are so tired, but she is still talking to me, so, that's good. :veryhappy No mechanical issues at all.......a relief.

Really swell time. Great organizing; great friends, just fantastic time. Yes, my old stock engine car can keep up with some of those snazzy little go karts--seriously, I was impressed at the speeds through the esses on the mountain curves!

Thanks to all who made this the special event it was; can't wait til Carlisle.

More pics from the Ga. Nationals:

Talked to Gil (OGTS) today and Gil made it home after a looooong day...He wanted
me to thank everyone for the GREAT time at the Ga. Nationals. I think Gil kinda
expected to come to Georgia and spend a laid back weekend (He said something
about false advertising) at The Nationals. NOT!!!

Gil also wanted to Thank everyone for the True "Southern Hospitality" and stated
he never felt hungry...:veryhappy while here in Georgia. I dont care who ya are,
the food was fantastic....:yup:

Special THANKS from me, for all the help in planning the event, and making it happen!

Thanks, AV8R...you know what I'm talkin about....

Thanks to GA folks

I wanted to share my thank you's to all that hosted the GA National's. I was not there but my car was thanks to Keith & Cain of New Vintage Automotive. The Show was her first appearance since Keith & Cain finished her up just a week ago. Thanks to all again and hope "Butterscotch" made her self proud. From a proud Colorado Opel GT owner.

I loved the pictures and hope to see even more. Great to see "Butterscotch" in a few of them. Would love to know what you think of how the car looked since must of you have seen the finished product as I have not seen the real thing. Keith has sent me lots of great pictures all along the restoration process. Thanks again to all who hosted the event. Hope to make the next one.

I looked through the pictures, there are some really awesome cars attending. I am trying to figure out the one finger salute in picture number 5 :yup:. I guess he didn't like the photographer or something. Just kidding, great show and it appears that southern hospitality can't be beat. We usually make a cross country trip every year, maybe next years should be to Georgia, looks like a lot of fun and a lot of great looking Opels.

Folks just a reminder, if you took pics at the Ga Nationals and would like to have
them included on the Ga Nationals DVD i'm working on, please forward them to me
as soon as possible. I will start Monday compiling them for a slideshow. There will
be a cost for these...cost of the DVD (.50), cost for the duplication ($1) then a few $$$
for the Tom Cavataio Charity Fund, my time is free...should turn out pretty cool.

Also working on the video DVD, but will take a little longer for that...will update later

email to scgoines(at)windstream.net Thanks for those already sent!
