For those who have not attended the Mother Road Fest before I would urge you to look at the threads for past shows in the forums. The Show tends to be a cross between a downtown street festival and car show. It often draws about 1000 Car entrys and has between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators. This may be the only Major Multi-Car Show with an Opel Class with Three Awards determined by Judges from the event. The event starts with a Friday evening Cruise/Parade from an eastside shopping center to the Downtown show area. While downtown you can hear live music look at the cars and eat and drink. The judged part of the show starts Saturday morning and for the Opel group goes till about 5:00 pm. The show continues Sunday from about 10:00 am til about 2:00 pm with Awards presented about Noon.

Being held downtown allows those who may not be car buffs other things to do. A great number of the Lincoln Historic Sites are within walking distance of where we park downtown. Of course the Downtown shops and resturants are open. It is also possible to walk to a well preserved Frank Lloyd Wright home.

As far as our group we normally go about things this way.
Friday is an open kind of day. Opelers start to arrive after noon or so and this year I think will have two choices. I plan to lead one group to the Starting point of the Cruise to Downtown. I will be looking for another one of our group to maybe take some of our folks to a resturant near the Hotel. Of course some will just hang at the Hospitality Room and Bench Race.

Saturday we try to meet as a group on the Hotel Parking lot before 8:00 am and drive downtown as a group. This is always an impressive sight and gets attention. We park downtown and get set up for the judges and injoy the show and each other. Around 4:00 pm we have a little parts auction and raffle and our own awards then it is off to Top Cats Chill & Grill for Dinner. The night ends with more Bench Racing at the Hotel Hospitality Room.

Sunday we try to get anyone who stays to meet around 10:00 am at the Hotel and head downtown for the Awards.

This year when you RSVP try to also let us know what Opel you will bring if any. Also if you have a plan for what you want to do Friday evening and how many you will have for Dinner Saturday Night. For you oldtimers here I will be posting another thread and asking for help on some aspects of this.

So get ready to KICK IT ON ROUTE 66 in 2013.

John:

Allen and I are planning to be there, unless Tommy decides to set his wedding date for that day. We hope to bring the pink car.

We are looking forward to it.

I've got it penciled in on my dance card!
If you want to meet up to go together, for the first time in almost 2 years I will have a Opel with a reliable motor in it :)

I'm planning to make this my first RT-66 Festival ever. If plans don't change (haha) I'll bring a girl friend and an Opel.

Time to do a little updating on the event

First off , Gary if you get a chance look things over again. It looks like we now have the RSVP feature but still do not show in the upcoming events.

In the last couple of weeks I have started to get off my butt and look into some things for the event.

T-Shirts
I have contacted Jersydave and asked if he would be interested in doing the shirts for this years Nationals. He is willing to do so and said in the next few weeks he may have something for us to look at. Dave did a great job for the Carlisle event and has the means to market them online.

I also put a flyer together for Gil Wesson of OGTS to send out and will attach to this post if I can. I am trying to get some event flyers for him to send out but they are not printed yet.

Now is the time to ask for some help.

Parts Auction and Raffle stuff
I would like one or more people to be in charge of handling this part of the event. Folks can donate what they want and like last year we will split it up between the two.

Goody Bag
Once again a person or group of folks can put this together.

Friday Dinner
Need someone who knows the area to maybe lead a group to dinner. I am sure some will do the Downtown Cruise and I am ready to be a part of that but others will stay at the Hotel and I suspect some would like to do dinner elsewhere.

Saturday Downtown
Most of us tend stay close to our Opels but not everyone is a carshow diehard. Maybe some will want to check out the local Lincoln sites, if so maybe someone wants to coordinate that.

September will be here before we know it.

I always wanted to participate at that event but from one or another reason it was not meant to be. Hope it will be different this year. I am intending to participate with my GT, so your friendly Canadian Opel buddy will justify the title of the event Opel Nationals and International.:veryhappy
