For those who have not attended the Mother Road Fest before I would urge you to look at the threads for past shows in the forums. The Show tends to be a cross between a downtown street festival and car show. It often draws about 1000 Car entrys and has between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators. This may be the only Major Multi-Car Show with an Opel Class with Three Awards determined by Judges from the event. The event starts with a Friday evening Cruise/Parade from an eastside shopping center to the Downtown show area. While downtown you can hear live music look at the cars and eat and drink. The judged part of the show starts Saturday morning and for the Opel group goes till about 5:00 pm. The show continues Sunday from about 10:00 am til about 2:00 pm with Awards presented about Noon.
Being held downtown allows those who may not be car buffs other things to do. A great number of the Lincoln Historic Sites are within walking distance of where we park downtown. Of course the Downtown shops and resturants are open. It is also possible to walk to a well preserved Frank Lloyd Wright home.
As far as our group we normally go about things this way.
Friday is an open kind of day. Opelers start to arrive after noon or so and this year I think will have two choices. I plan to lead one group to the Starting point of the Cruise to Downtown. I will be looking for another one of our group to maybe take some of our folks to a resturant near the Hotel. Of course some will just hang at the Hospitality Room and Bench Race.
Saturday we try to meet as a group on the Hotel Parking lot before 8:00 am and drive downtown as a group. This is always an impressive sight and gets attention. We park downtown and get set up for the judges and injoy the show and each other. Around 4:00 pm we have a little parts auction and raffle and our own awards then it is off to Top Cats Chill & Grill for Dinner. The night ends with more Bench Racing at the Hotel Hospitality Room.
Sunday we try to get anyone who stays to meet around 10:00 am at the Hotel and head downtown for the Awards.
This year when you RSVP try to also let us know what Opel you will bring if any. Also if you have a plan for what you want to do Friday evening and how many you will have for Dinner Saturday Night. For you oldtimers here I will be posting another thread and asking for help on some aspects of this.
So get ready to KICK IT ON ROUTE 66 in 2013.
