It's always nice when a car show is tied in with another major event or large car show. Carlisle is special because it's conjoined with the Foreign Car Nationals and has tons of vendors, music, shops, other exotic cars, etc. Charlotte is special because it's at a race track with thousands of muscle cars to look at. I guess Springfield is also part of a major town car show. The best car shows that I go to near me are the ones in the middle of a town or at a town fair. Lots to look and shop at, eateries, and.....most importantly....... lots of people who aren't greasy grumpy car dudes. The worst shows I've been to are the ones that the only people who come to see the cars are the guys that entered the show. Just a whole bunch of car dudes in a parking lot in the middle of nowhere. Booooooooring!
True.. this is neither and both. It works for the 30th anniversary, and won't be a parking lot. Think more family picnic.
The issue is this is the "off year" where there are no clubs to hold the event, Carlisle just did it, Springfield this, then the off year, then Charlotte, then OMC, Rinse and repeat.
So a perfect chance to do a quick Richmond, VA meet like I used to 30 years ago.
This was one of the last meets in 1996.
There are surprisingly a lot of Opel owners in the Tidewater region of Virginia, DC area, Northern North Carolina, that don't go to any meets. But would go to Richmond.
The biggest difference this event will have over Carlilse, will be no one else promoting it.. so it will be on me and the Richmond group to help out. Believe it or not since this photo, there are more Opelers and more cars in the area than there were then. But I won't start that promotion until after Springfield.
