As many of you know Gil is working up a tour of the Pacific Coast to celebrate the 50th year of the Opel Manta. The tour will start in Santa Monica and end just north of San Francisco and will take place at the end of April/beginning of May, pretty much the same time of year as the 50GT event. The details are still being worked out and I'll post them here when I get them and of course they will be in The Blitz.
Gil does not see this event as a "Nationals". It is not a car show. But as a signature event for 2020, I think it fits the definition of a Nationals, the one event of the year people should try to make. So, if people come from far and wide it will be a de-facto Nationals, even without a car show, awards, etc.
OMC is scheduled to host the Nationals in 2020. If people want, and are willing to support, a second West Coast event, we could probably do that. Ideas for 2020 could be we join the fun at Hot August Nights (August 4-9) in Reno, or maybe a big SoCal car show. I doubt anyone would want to risk salt damage, but Opels at Bonneville could be fun. If we reschedule OMC's event for 2022, after the Glacier Point Road reopens, we could do this at OGTS, staying at a nearby casino/hotel, and take a drive into Yosemite National Park and up to Glacier Point. It's a fantastic road and the views at the top cannot be matched in the lower 48.
Or, Paul Kaman is handling the Pacific Northwest meet this year, and it will be located at the LeMay Marymount Collection, a fantastic venue, in early August.
Your thoughts? Suggestions?
