Just where is the 90 degree adapter on the 1970 GT and where can I get a working replacement that I can afford?

It connects directly to where the speedometer cable goes. Right on the output shaft housing.

As far as one that you can "afford"? That's a hard one. We don't know what you can afford.

There are three Kadetts on Ebay being parted out. I doubt the wrecking yard that is parting them out knows how rare (or, rather, expensive) those right angle adapters are. They might sell one cheap (if Kadetts had em).

The Kadett 1.9 four speed uses the angle drive, but it is shorter than the GT for some reason. The GT has about double the length, probably found it was still in a bit of a bind
