The (AM) radios are all pretty much the same, but there are at least 2 different face plates. The early ones all said "Kadett Radio", even on the GT's and the later ones said something different. I have at least 6 of them that were removed at the dealership from cars who's purchasers didn't want to pay the extra for the radio. Not quite NOS, but pretty sure they'll work fine.
I also have 3 or 4 Datsun and Toyota AM/FM radios from the early '80's. They fit in the stock holes without modifying anything, look pretty close to the same, but let you listen to FM. One of the Toyota ones has a remote mount tape deck too, but I can't remember how well the tape unit worked. Another has a remote mount 8-track.....

I probably do, but I would have to find one at this point since they are all pretty much hidden in boxes from at least 3 moves ago.
These days I like the ones from late 80's Volvos. They fit in the Opel dash, in fact I even put an Opel Kadett AM face plate on one for my '67 Kadett, but they have aux inputs on the back designed for a tape deck but easily modified for an I-pod or Sat radio tuner. Still holding their value on e-vil-bay, but nearly free at any u-pull-it in the country.

They made Opel radios with cassette players in them, right?
I've always wanted to find a GT one with a cassette player. Only if it says GT on the face plate, not Kadette.

In all the Opels up to 75 the answer is NO, after they stopped importing them from 76 on, yes, but the GT never got more than just AM/FM

Is it possible to dissect a radio and swap the face plates?
I thought that I had seen Opel radios that said Kadette Cassette by Opel. So, if I'm right, what I saw was from a '76 or newer Opel?
I wonder if the faceplate for an Opel GT radio could be extracted and, with some customizing, be inserted into another radio with FM, a cassette, or even a CD player?
They were all made by Delco, right? One would presume that other Delco radios, installed in other makes of cars, would have the same design and that one could make a hybrid radio with an Opel GT faceplate.

The GT's we (U.S.A.) received were AM only. Not sure when FM was offered in Opels. I made an impulse purchase from German eBay a few years ago on a Blaupunkt Opel AM/FM radio. FM was mono AND I was never able to get it to work. :sigh:

Forget the Opel GT radio unless you want to remain absolutely concourse. Get a radio that states it's a DIN 1. You can install it in the GT and only have to cut the gauge holder about 3/4 of an inch on the sides and about a 1/2 inch on the top an bottom. Once the face plate is on the radio no one can tell what it is. Mine has an SD card that holds about a 1000 songs. With that said, you will never hear the same song twice, unless you want to hear it again. Measure the radio opening, just because the opening worked for me does not mean it will work for everyone. Once you have figured out the amount of plastic to remove, make a template and and cut the opening with a sharp hacksaw. That's the part that brings on caution, but it's been done about a thousand time and it's successful 99.9% of the time. One thing to remember, the basel on the radio covers up any mistakes you may have made. If you don't care about a radio keep the Opel GT radio, or if you are going to have your GT concourse. Almost forgot, it has a CD player. AM & FM Radio and the SD card. I am including a picture of the radio.
