If you read up on Dad's gift you know that I now have a Mercedes Benz 300E, and a friend of mine found me a car that he says I should buy. A 200 series Mercedes from 1958, but I really want an Opel and frantically am searching for one. Which should I buy? an Opel or a Mercedes? I love them both equally.

What's the condition of the Merc? If it's worth getting, it's worth getting. Some of the 50's-60's Mercs were really cool.

well, honestly a direct oppinion of a car to choose should really be worthless, no offense to anybody. its going to be your car for you to enjoy, so might as get what you've always wanted, whatever that may be...opel or mercedes.

I just passed on a '62 190SL convertible two weeks ago. It was in nice original condition, but an automatic (yuck). Figured I'd drive it through the summer, then over the fall/winter tidy it up and sell it in the spring. Would make some money I'm sure. Never with an Opel however.......

It pretty much means that the only people making money from selling Opels are con artists. I would not consider buying, fixing, and reselling an Opel a profitable venture for the average enthusiast.

The car that you passed up on was worth well over 50,000. Maybe not yet, but once restored it would easily fetch such a price. It may not be an Opel. But couldn't you buy more Opel's after fixing up the Mercedes?
