while on the friday night cruise i had to make a pretty fast stop, not quite on the virge of locking but pretty hard braking. the pads and rotors are 3 weeks old, from OGTS and they smelled bad but not extremely strong. the thing that worried me was a real excessive amount of smoke rolled out from the front wheels afterwards. didnt get brake fade, all fealt fine, and just wondering if its just something they do ir if its something i outta look into as a possible issue or not.

TIA for input.

It's recommended that when new pads are installed, that you make 15-20 gradual stops from about 20-30 mph to break-in the pads.

That being said, Im pretty sure that you made at least that many stops in three weeks. Also, I have never seen a single mechanic say "This brake job is almost done, I just need to go out and make my 20 stops from 30 mph".

So your smoke could have been from a small amount of water, oil, or brake dust that went poof. If your real nervous, take 'em apart and take a look at the rotors. If there is a serious problem, you'll probably notice that the rotors have blued. Make sure that both pistons are moving freely, the pads aren't cocked, and take a look for any sort of residue that would indicate something foreign hasn't wound up on your rotors.

i popped the pistons out and took the seals out too to clean everything up so they would move freely again. they're not seeping and didnt see anything on the rotors. first real hard stop they've done. if it does it again i'll look into it more.
