I am looking for any recommendations for body work on my 71' GT. I have to raise the hood on my GT to accomodate the larger engine with turbocharger and the intercooler. It would have to be wider than the hood with scoops than is for sale on OpelGTSource.com, otherwise I would calling them.

So I think my best bet is to have my hood modified and would need a repectable ( and preferably reasonable ) body shop do the hood.

Any advice or recommendations?

Thanks

Paul,

As far as a body shop to go to I am in the same arena as you, trying to find one that is willing to work on an old car. I was planning to do as much of the restoration body work myself and then turn it over to a professional when I had it prep. I am still looking to have that done in a year or year half from now so I have a little time.

It sounds like you are trying to find someone that will do some fabrication. That may be a little more difficult and expensive then just a body shope to fix the rust areas and paint.

I have talked with some body shops in the Atlanta area and they said they would not work on it (the work on cars 1980 or newer only). I would just keep an eye here and also talk to some of the gear heads at the local parts store, some times they are a great source of info.

Good luck. I would love to see how you got all that in the GT!!

Paul;
There's also another way of going. My sister had a L-88 Corvette cowl induction hood grafted onto her GT hood. Try looking around at various speed shops and custom houses and you might stumble across something that might work. You might want to get a spare GT hood to practice on till you get it the way you want it, and then do it on the final hood you want to use.
Just my $.02 worth.

Body Work

I am in Texas and my be able to help you out some, But we are 14 hours apart and if you could give me an idea of what you want the hood to look like when completed and maybe some pictures along with some dimensions of what the clearances you need are, I could give you an idea of cost and about how long it would take be to build it. I could also make it out of fiberglass possibly. I am not to bad with custom work or fabrications you can check with any body who has seen my GT. PM me if willing to take a shot at it I have about 8 hoods laying around, so there is no plroblem there.
