Hey Guys:
You can change the filter, but you can modify your stock snorkel assembly to make it fit. A few different methods have been applied, but all I did was trim down the vertical portion where it "slides" over the top of the carb. It requires removing the stock clamp - but not much more - and then adding a set screw thru the remaining portion of the vertical portion into the top edge of the carb.
I think there is a file describing this surgery as performed by Wayne, where he put hold down screws thru the top of the snorkel assembly. It is very clean looking. I went the way I did to try to retain as much of a stock look as possible.
Retaining the stock snorkel has the side benefit of supplying slightly cooler air to the carb, as opposed to a rectangular "free-flow" type of filter element.

Maybe there is more than one type weber carb adaptors?
Different heights? And I probably have the tallest?

I will try to get a photo or two or three tonight (sorry, I've been working ugly hours these past couple of days). One other thing that I forgot - I don't know how critical it is, but I ground out an elliptical shape in the portion of the Weber adapter that fits into the snorkel (to match the profile of the inside of the snorkel) to open up the area for cleaner airflow. I think you'll follow me when I get the pics up.

Different year Opels DID have different height intake manifolds. Couple that with the possibility of different height engine mounts, various gasket thickness', and various brands of carb adapters, and you'll find that some air filter housings have plenty of clearance and others will NOT clear without modifications. Depends which direction the tolerances stack.....

...And the aluminum Weber adapters come in different heights. I just compared the one on my GT with another I have. The one with the weber logo is taller.
I cut the clamp off the stock housing, drilled a hole in the back edge, then drilled a slightly smaller hole in the adapter, mounted the adapter, put the housing on and held it together with a sheet metal screw.

did they make the conversion pieces to use a holly carb with the stock airbreather set-up? i think i had one until i sold it, he said it wont fit his webber, and now that i think about it, looks close to a holly 2 barrell.

Well ............
I got home from work around 11:00pm, took the video cam out to the garage, discovered the dead video cam battery, went back into the house and tracked down the charger ( I think the last time I used the cam was in Carlisle ). I took about 7 or 8 digital stills, but cannot make myself suffer through uploading them tonight via the dial-up connection here at the house.
I'll take the files to work with me and upload them from there in the morning. Sorry for the delay !

Good question Rick!
There are two options.
1. Attach a photo to the post by using the the "Attach File" link just above the Submit Reply button. This keeps the picture with the thread.
2. Add it to the Photo Gallery. Each member has their own Members Album and you can post photos to the specific albums in the gallery. If you wanted to post some of your Carlisle pics, go to that album and click on the "Add Photos" link at the top.

The photos of my interpretation of the Weber air intake modifications have been posted. No warranty expressed or implied. Your mileage may vary. 
This is one of those things that has about one hundred different ways of being done. I hope you get some ideas from this.

Um... hammer.... fix ya right up
Well mine...um... my adapter was modified by a lovely hammer I call the "persuader". You should of seen the body work I attempted too!!! It was done when I was young... had the opel just for chicks. But now I'm older the chicks aren't as important as the opel. haha!
