Noticed today I have a coolant drip, not able to get underneath it yet, wondering if it’s the lower radiator hose (the end is a bit wet) traveling to the front of the engine,
436759

or is it the water pump gasket? In the video you can see the drip in front of the pulleys. There’s a puddle on the ground now. Thanks.

Wiggle your fan from front to back. It's usually the water pump seal when it drips from the spot you say.

You are going to need a water pump. It's leaking out the service hole at the bottom of the water pump. It leaks at the location so that you know you need to replace water pump before the pump bearing fails and the fan hits the radiator.

Yep, that's a lot of wiggle...I suspect overly tight fan belt, possibly due to worn alternator mount wore out the pump bearings. Or its almost 50 years old.

Water pumps are relatively cheap and only a little PIA to replace.

Yep my GT is leaking a tiny bit of coolant. My grandpa wiggled the fan and we need a new water pump. WE got one from rock-auto. We haven't installed it yet.

I thought there was a pump also. There should be the top and bottom hose, but I could be wrong.

I went down to the barn this morning and found a water pump with PN#42246 but it is crossed out and there is a ? mark next to it. I went to my RA account and found that they had sent the wrong part (miss-boxed) and that they had sent the replacement. It would have gone into the boxes in the trunk but might not be with the other items.

Back to the barn. I now at least knew what the box looked like. Sure enough, there it was in a box on a shelving unit. So I have the pump and gasket. In the box was the original shoes (thought I saved them) plus another set of new ones. I'll sent them out today or tomorrow.

If you need to drive the car a short distance in the mean time, loosen the radiator cap one click so that the system does not pressurize and lose coolant so quickly. It's not a bad job to replace the pump. Remove the radiator and preferably the crank pulley to make that one screw more accessible.

After putting the new pump on, I realized it doesn’t have a pulley. Do you need to reuse the old one (how do you get it off, with a puller?) or is this the wrong pump?

Simply unbolt the pulley and bolt it on the new water pump
