Cracked Headgasget?

well...i think the cooling system actually works now...thank god... However, i seem to have found another problem. I think that the headgasget is cracked or in some way not sealing correctly. At crank, and below about 1200 rpm, there is a kind of a screeching or whistling noise. Also, it refuses to rev above around 2500-3000 rpm. Possibly the best tip-off that ive seen is air bubbles in the coolant. I opened up the radiator cap, and sure enough, little air bubbles poppin up all over the place...Basically, before I go off and buy a new exhaust and gead gasget and pull the head, i need to know whether im right or wrong.
Oh, and Gene, thanks for gettin that shroud to me...that and a good system flush seems to have fixed the problem up right.
Thanks all,
Rob

I hate to say it but if you have just gotten over a overheating issue it might not be the head gasket. I would get the gasket and hope, but when you pull the head get it checked for cracks. Certain year heads are notorious for cracking. I really hope I'm wrong on this one.

Or a cracked head. If you think that it was overheated, I would strongly suspect a cracked head. If you pull the head, take it in to a machine shop to be magnufluxed (they'll know what that means). Opel CIH heads are prone to cracking though the exhaust seat into the coolant passage, which gives exactly the symptoms you describe. I hope I am wrong...

I hope youre wrong too...

Man...i do hope youre wrong...i dont think its been overheated before...it just ran high...the reason i think its the head gasget is cause when i flushed it, i used an insane concentration of flush...and it turned green...the color of corroding copper.
So, i just hope its not the head, but i guess well see.
thanks, and ill keep ya posted,
Rob
