Make sure that the pick-up is not touching the rotor and the rotor is pushed down all the way. If you had the distributor out and fitted the pick-up with it out of the car it will drop down if you held it by the housing and not the shaft when you fitted it.

Pull your cap and make sure it is A. Not touching and B. not to low which is what I am guessing is your problem.

PS Also make sure that no light is getting in the distbutor cuase when I removed my vaccum advance and didn't cover the hole I had the same problem.

I built a Legere 2.4 so I had to remove my vac advance.
if you had the distibutor out, which to install the molex you must of. if you held it by the housing to install and check the pick-up when you put it back the housing falls as it rises up a bit on the shaft if you hold it by the housing. When you put the distrib back the housing falls about 1/8 of an inch which makes a big difference.

Try this. take a 19mm wrench to the front pully bolt and crank it around till the pointer and the ball on the fly wheel line up. That is top dead center (TDC).The rotor should be pointing about 4 o'clock if 12 is the part closest to the motor. Redo your pick-up placement with the distrib in the car. (Make sure the plugs are 1 3 4 2) and try to start it. If it doesn't go switch the 1 and the 3 and the 2 and the 4 plugs and TRY AGAIN. If it starts shut it off reline the pointer ball on the flywheel so the car is at TDC and the rotor points to about 4 o'clock. Pull the fuel pump and lift the distrib carefully out and rotate the shaft 180 replace the fuel pump and it should start.
