Hey Guys,

I have been working to install a security system in my GT these past few days. I drive it downtown a bit, with the exception of winter, and would really enjoy no one taking it. Everything is going well except that for the life of me I can not find the wire going from the dome light to the door pin(s). The passanger side door pin is disconnected so I would also like to know how to get access to it. The driver side one works but I can't find the silly wire for the life of me. Please help!

Here's what I remember when I took out the complete harness to strip the car for painting. There is a Gray wire that runs from the door jam switch through the heater wire harness, to the fuse panel, into the rear lights harness, all the way around the rear of the car, and goes up over the right rear quarter panel window to the dome light. There is also a Red wire from the fuse panel that follows the same route as the Gray wire to power the dome light. The gray wire is the ground for the light, and the door jam switches create the ground when the door are opened. HTH.

Here's where I'm confused. The red wire runs through the fuse box, I found it. The gray wire doesn't but if it meets up with the red wire when it changes from the heater wire harness to the rear lights one I may be in good shape. I still don't know how to access the space behind the door to connect the other one though. Hmmmm.

the grey wire starts at the right door switch, then goes to the left one (through the fuse panel) then to the back of the car and there is a connection for both the red and the grey by the right tail lights.

helps having all the wiring scattered out on my pool table :)

There is a hole in the inside structure where the wires go behind the door to the jam switch. What I normally do is, remove the switch from the door jam, snake a piece of stiff wire through the hole and try to snag it through the hole the wires go into from the heater harness. Attach the Gray wires to the stiff wire and pull it back out through the door jam switch hole, attach the gray wires to the swotch and put the switch back in its orignal hole in the door jam. An alternate way, may be to reach through the side vent by the floor and see if you can guide the wires out the door jam switch hole. HTH.

I take it this light should come on when either door is open then?
When the door is opened, and the door jam switch opens, it grounds to the body frame completing the circuit. So if your dome isn't coming on when a door is opened, you need to sand down the ground connection.

Thanks WCGT! I thought this.

I noticed one day that a buzzer alarm intermittently sounded when the key was left in the ignition. Messed with the door switch on the drivers side and found out what switch it was, still not fixed it for good yet! Now I've got to fixed the switch for the dome light as well! :( Still fixing the Headlights right now! Arrgg. never ending restore on something right now. Lucky too have such a clean car however!!! :)

Hey WCGT what do you think about meeting up at Kool April nites In Redding CA. this year? Cost $40 to enter their Cruise Friday night, then the Show & Shine Sat. for a possible out of 68 trophy. I listed this this weekend and will bring it back up every weekend until April 1st. the cut off date. Trying to get Wasp here, he's only 1 hr. 20 min away.

Thought I had posted this - but I guess I'm losing it.
Anyway, Cool April Nights - yes, I'll be there, but my GT won't. Are you entering a car? An Opel?

If you get a chance, stop by Taylor Motors in Redding (Cypress @ Churn). They've got a brand new Opel GT - never been sold, registered, or licenced.

Yes I've enterd the 72 GT.

I was going to enter two cars, still not decided on that as $80 ($40 ea.) is a lot of dough for what you get! I also have a 69 VW kit car Sterling GT with 1835cc and dual 40 Webers, kicks but and sorry guys a lot more fun to drive than the Opel GT and hell of a lot cheaper for VW parts!!! :D

Yes I've seen the New GT at Taylor Motors $17,000 worth and the restored black GT $9,000 worth; No thanks too reich for my blood! The new Red one was purchased from the Harahs car collection in Vegas, Guess Jay Leno's not into GT's or he'd of surely snatched it up!

I went one strp farther and put under dash lights wired into the door switches to provide extra illumination on thr floor area in the GT. Looks cool at night and helps getting into and out of the car.

I like the under dash lighting idea, I always felt the stock dome lite was lacking. Actually when I redid the headliner and mounted the mirror and visors I didn't have it in me to cut it again for something I never liked in the first place. On the other hand with the dark tinted windows it's like a cave in there, especially at night.

I picked up a set of LEDs to mount under the drivers and passenger side when I finish up with the dash. Just got to find the wires, or rerun new ones. Figured I'd pass on the dome light for now. Wouldn't mind running a seperate light with a switch to mount near the spare tire. The LEDS were bright when I checked them with a battery the other night. Jarrell
