when running my engine one day, i noticed the lower engine pulley, attached to the crank, was wobbling. does the 1.9 have a harmonic balancer? if so, it sounds like mine has gone bad. what is a source for this? i looked at ogts but didn't find anything.

any thoughts??

Wobbling crank pulley . . .

You DO have the pulley retaining bolt screwed into the front of the crank, right?!

i noticed 70 and older have the torque for the crank pully bolt at 72 foot lbs and 71 and newer is set at 54 if i remember right. just know seventy and older are higher. since the values are different, would there be a difference in the crank pully its self for the different years.......? thinking this could be a problem making it wobble possably.

The Opel CIH engine doesn't use a "harmonic balancer" (like Chevy small blocks), but just a simple pulley. And they are just sheet metal on a cast hub, and quite easily bent. And straightened as well, if you are careful. My recently acquired SportWagon had the pulley installed about 30 degrees off from aligning with the woodruff key, which jammed it on pretty good. I bent it when I used the puller to remove it. I might have been able to straighten it, but OGTS sold me a good used one for $30.
