So it looks like I may be doing an axle swap in my GT next week. I have lots of 'play' in the ring and pinion, I can rotate the drive shaft about 20 degress plus before it stops) and it is a 'c-clip' rearend (not so good for my driving 'style').

My question is, does anyone know offhand, if the brake backing plates are interchangeable betwen the 69-70 axle and the 71-73 axle? Since I will probably be pulling the axles out of the new housing to replace the seals, and the 69 axles slide right out anyway, I figure if the backing plates are the same, then with a little careful planning and delicate work, I can avoid opening up my brake lines and dismantling the brake shoes/cylinders etc.
