Since we have lost the link on the home page to the ad forum, I thought that I would post this here. I was "talking" with a fellow on eBay about buying a spare head, but the cost of shipping from him (in PA) to me (in Calgary, Alberta, Canada) was just too much. He mentioned he also had a spare engine with a head, and if he didn't sell them pretty quick, they were off to the scrap metal dealer. So I suggested he post an ad here, which he did at:

http://opelgt.com/ppc/showproduct.php?product=51&sort=1&cat=4&page=1

He only wants $50 for the engine, complete with a starter. Assuming it isn't a TOTAL piece of junk, it should be worth at least that. And the world will have one more Opel CIH engine to provide parts from. Didn't I read about a member needing a used crank?

shipping

I recently shipped a complete head (cam, springs, valves, rocker arms, and covers, EXCEPT valve cover) right at 70 lbs, from Atlanta to Ft. Worth for $21 via UPS

I'm in eastern PA. I just sent him an e-mail that I would buy the engine if it is not too far to drive(approx 100 miles). Hope to hear back from him soon.

The e-mail address is undeliverable from work. Does anyone have his phone # or any other way to contact him?

His name and e-mail address are: Robert Zimmerman [[email protected]] Tell him Keith sent you.

As for the shipping cost for a head, I WISH it would only be $21 USD. The last heavy thing I shipped from the USA to Canada (a set of brake rotors) cost $40, and weighed somewhat less than a head. I guess trans-border shipping is just more expensive.

inquiring minds

Just becouse I wanted to know, it would cost 50 US to ship a complete head to you from here. Of course the more you took off of it the less it would be. Even though I have been known to drop odd things in the mail from time to time, I don't think A head would be along those lines. So don't get your hopes up. For the weight that really isn't that bad.

shipping costs

Well it doesn't hurt to work for a company that does tons of shipping, both domestic and international. I can do this with a nice discount

Head Shipping to NZ

nobody said:
Kwilford,
Just to satisfy my own curiosity how much was the shipping for the head?
Count your selves lucky that there is no water between you!

I had a 1.5L head sent by surface postage from Portland, Oregon to Christchurch, New Zealand ..... $US100.90 Fortunately no one else bid on it on EBay so it only cost me $60. Thought a 1.5L head for $160ish was not too bad!

Here's the stamp:

I shipped a few things this morning with what has to be the ride of choice for Opel parts. It was only going 600 to 700 miles and weighed around 200 pounds. I loaded the parts into the cargo area of a small private Lear jet. Not much chance of anybody going postal on this job. It will be a shipment I'll remember for a while. And yes 1 item was a 1.9 head.

Well I got the engine(minus the distributer) and a few extra parts which included a 4 speed transmission, bellhousing, Manta Valve cover, extra 12 bolt head(no lifters or rocker arms), a few flywheels, and other Misc. parts.

While unloading the engine(no lift available) the alum. valve cover broke :(
I haven't removed the head to see what type of pistons are in there. It looks like it was in storage for awhile. Cobwebs and rust in the intake and exhaust ports(no manifold).

He was asking 75.00 for the whole thing, delivered to my door. No Problem!!

I would like to pose a question to the group. I know there are 2 different 4 speeds. What years were they installed? Is one stronger than the other?

I am only familiar with the 4 speed with the reverse switch which mounts into the transmission on the right hand side(threaded into the casting). The one I just received has a switch mounted on the left side and is just bolted to the transmission, like a microswitch, but bigger.
