Somewhere mixed in a thread I've spent to much time to locate to no avail, Gordon posted a pic regarding a bracket to brace the exhaust manifold?
I was curious if someone has one, 1, and 2 like a lot of parts factory install, how crucial is this bracket?

It was only factory-installed on 1975 fuel injected Opels, as those models had the Sprint exhaust manifold which did not attach to the intake manifold.

I’ve never bothered re-installing one.

Seriously? I've seen very few 1975 FI Opels and I've seen several of those braces. I wanted to use it on the shorty header that I recently installed only to find out that it won't fit or I'm not smart enough to make it fit.

There wasn't enough clearance around the bolt hole for the brace without modifying it. I guess one could cut half the hole so the it could be used for support.

Can you cut 'half a hole"?

I moved this listing to the Exhaust Forum, as we haven't had a thread regarding this bracket for a while.

I thought that this bracket was quite ubiquitous, as I have seen far more of them than 1975 Opels. According to the esteemed Otto Bartsch, he had one on his 1969 Kadett, as discussed here:

Just stating I’ve only seen them on 1975 Opels.

That goes back to the early 1980’s when I was stripping Opels as my day job. Most of those cars were 1-owner cars back then, certainly many were under 10 years old at that time.

I never saw that bracket on any of the other hundreds of Opels I stripped or worked on.

So, if they were in fact on other years/models, then all the previous owners removed them, or they fell off from rust.

I just looked through my '72 "Illustration catalog", which has blown up images of all the parts and the support/brace is shown multiple times on multiple engines with one barrel, 2 barrel, and dual carb single barrel intake manifolds:

Could be. I’ve seen some for sure, but we’re only talking 5 or 6 of them in 40 years. Considering the amount of Opels I’ve worked on, it’s still only 1.5-2% of those cars. I even still have two of them, just for posterity.

WOW, Thank you Cub, that sucker is buried in there. Not sure I could reach it to install it even if I had one
And judging by how rusty the exhaust is down there I don't think I want to try to even attempt to get the bolt off the exhaust.

Funny though, I have a 3 foot piece of steel (1" by 1/4" I believe) flat stock for something I was doing a while back & I was thinking I could just make one with it if need be.
But from what I'm gathering, I'm thinking if I want to brace the exhaust in an effort to help future leaks in this area ( if that's even a thing), I need to find another way 1. And 2 considering what Bob & others are saying - Cub because he has one installed, Would my thought of relevance of this being a VERY minor thing to worry about the effort?

Then again I could just weld it to the exhaust, Next time it has to come apart will probably be the last time.
In the event that myself or others would want to make on, can someone provide some measurements and a pic of one for the gt?
It would seem to be any easy piece to make without having to source one.

I don’t think that any of my gts have that brace. At least my 69, 73, and 72 parts gt didn’t. I might have a brace in one of my many boxes of parts but I have no idea if I Have one.
