Hey, I have an opel gt with a performance but streetable cam, large valves, large pistons, good compression, and a weber downdraft. It chops at an idle and comes on very strong at around 2.5 or 3000 rpm. Does anyone have a suggestion on a good universal muffler? I already know what tips I want to use, but i'd like to see what people recommend that sounds pretty good on a performance opel.

Mine's all stock with a cherrybomb only and sounds great, especially around 3K. It's also got a nice burble on down shift.

I guess it all depends on what you want to hear, smooth anf quiet or somewhat throaty.

I did the same on my GT as I did on my Sportwagon (will also work for the Manta) the only variation is the tail section to make fit the GT. But, it's the exhaust manifold, headpipe, MIDAS turbo muffler, custom over the axle pipe, and in the GT case, a "U" pipe to match the openings in the rear w/chrome pencil tips. As for the Wagon, a ebay bought ANSA twin chrome tip, both sound REAL good! ;)

do any of you know of a muffler that sounds more like one of the hondas? I know its kind of asking for the impossible since its completely different engineering, but i do like the way some of them sound.

Crusher, RallyBob has done extensive dyno testing on the exhaust systems for the 1.9 and larger Opel engines. This may sound trite, and like a recording, but use the search engine. All the info is there. Almost all the folks here have asked Bob at one time or another for info regarding all aspects of getting the most power from the engines and he has done an outstanding job of letting his expertise be used/known for the good of the Opel community. There are others on this site that have extensive knowledge in other areas as well as some real die hard racers that added to the knowledge pool of this site. Not that we don't mind the questions, it's just that after so long of hearing the same ones, over and over, it's gets to be redundant.
