Hurricane Ivan did not stop the AutoFair although it put a dent into attendance. The Charlotte area got hammered on Friday but Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day.
We had hoped for 9 Opels but 5 showed up. We even had Harold Collins and Keith Lundholm form the Tennessee Opel Club show up. They drove 8 hours through Ivan and had to take detours on I-40 due to mud slides! But they came! Now that is a sign of a true Opel lover!
Brian Quick, from Fayetteville, NC, took home the first place trophy with his great looking Orange GT. This was his first car show and first trophy.
Keith Lundholm took home the second place trophy with his Blue GT. The car looked great. Keith is from the Tennessee Opel Club and Harold Collins came with him. Many of you may know Harold from his posts on this site and Yahoo.
John May, from Charlotte, NC, won the Honorable Mention trophy with his Red GT. John was having a problem with his left headlight not closing all the way so Keith Lundholm repaired it for him right there on the spot.
Others showing up were Helmut Guehr from Kernersville, NC with his great looking Manta and Roy Bell with his red 73 GT. Jennifer Baier, otherwise known as Dritches, came by. She is from Hickory, NC. Her GT is not ready for show but she said she hoped it would be ready very soon. Also showing up but with out their Opel was Mike Preble and his wife from Raleigh, NC.
Many other people came by to visit and said they knew someone who has an Opel, or they used to have one, or they have one now, etc., etc. The club is steadily growing so hopefully, the AutoFair will become a great show in the near future for our Opels. The next AutoFair will be in early April 2005. The Spring AutoFair, each year, is the bigger of the two shows so if you would like to bring your Opel to the show in April, just let me know and I will get the information you need to attend, for free!
We had a great time and hope many of you who did not come will decide to bring your Opels out next Spring to the show! I have posted pictures in the Photo Section under Carolina Opel Club.
