My car has a piece of foam rubber about the size of a golf ball stuffed/glued into an opening in the front end of the rocker panels. There is a rectangular gap in the sheet metal here. The bottom edge of the front fender is at the bottom of this picture and the floor pan is at the top. Is this from the factory? I am trying to figure the purpose of it and whether to replace it. Thanks.

I do believe that is factory. It is a special product call 'condensed rust'...just add water.

Yep, that is factory and it’s how the sealed the front gap of the inner rocker. SEM makes some urethane foam products that will be similar, but pricey because you have to purchase an applicator and then the two part epoxy or body foam
