Do you think we would ever see the day that one of these fabricators actually do something radical to any Opel?

I think it would be great to see an Opel picked for a show like 'Overhaulin' or whatever. But the possibility is slim because the parts and things would all have to be made by hand since there is no actual 3rd party things going on with these cars.

What is your opinion and why?

I've thought about this but I'd like my car to be nearly stock with say more horsepower and maybe a supercharger. I also wouldn't want one of those silly sound systems that are just loud.

You're also right about the parts; with the Camaro's and Mustangs there are places that still make dashes, interior parts, etc, not so with Opels.

One thing is certain though, a GT would look very nice with a custom paint job. It would be better than some of the other cars they do, such as the El Camino's, Monte Carlo's, Ramblers, etc. Mustangs do have their points though. I used to have a Mach 1 fastback. I don't think they've done one of those yet.

These guys also seem stuck on American cars. They may never do a foreign car. It's probably the parts problem and a ratings/ demographics issue with wanting V8 powerplants and made in the U.S.A. cars.

My wife and daughters watch that show, and really like it. Mainly because they can say "Why can't you get YOUR car finished that fast?" Grrr....

I hear you Keith, I don't quite get that from Margaret, but she has voiced a desire to get one of my cars done. Because of the time and effort already spent on the GT, not to mention a huge dent in finances, I think I would like to see them do something on the monza. After all, it already has a good engine to start with, and tranny, and rear-end, all it really needs is an interior and exterior to really make me happy. :D

C'mon guys! This will never happen to one of our Opels. The minute that they tried to get our car 'away' from us with one of the stolen stories or such we would be so proactive in getting it back that it would blow the whole program. :p
Plus, no one of our relatives or friends would like to be in the position of lying to us about our Opel - they know we would be screaming 'what the #$)&%#! did you do to my car!!' on camera for posterity. And then we'd kill them. :D :D

I have read the "application" for OVER HAULIN' and it does not state whether the car should be foreign or domestic, just that it runs and drives. Hmmmm?

I watched Oerhaulin with my girlfriend once, as soon as the show was over I turned to look at her and said quite stearnly "if that ever happens to my car, it won't be pretty".

First, the whole stolen car story wouldn't fly. So it would have to be done during a time that I was away on vacation. I also have a very specific vision of what the car should look like when done. Being a Virgo, anything other than exactly what I have in mind will cause me to twitch uncontrollably. Plus the chances of one of those guys boogering the motor is almost too much to even think about.

About the only chance that Overhaulin' will have of turning out a successful episode based on an Opel is to involve one of the Opel Godfathers.

And *IF* they were to be successful with Pimpin' my Opel, I would accept the obnoxious stereo as part of the price of admission.... then gently remove it when it arrived home.

The first thing they would want to do is put a V-8 in it. (Overhaulin') Don't get me wrong, I love that show, but EVERY one I have watched, if it has a V-6 or straight 6, they put in a big V-8. If it has a big V-8 already, they put in a BIGGER V-8. I guess a couple times they have left the engine alone and just cleaned it up. They would have to strengthen the hell out of the body and frame to "safely" do that. All in 7 days? Not gonna happen.

That's the truth, first off, most of the engine transplants they do, there is already a supplier for aftermarket upgrades including the engine mounts etc., so they don't have to do any sheetmetal cutting and rewelding or custom build the mounts for the engine swaps. 7 days to swap out to my current project V-6/T-5, even with a crew of fabricators, in your dreams! :D

Although on "Overhaulin'" they do an excellent job with the cars they've worked on and I really liked the appropriate and restrained two tone paint job that they put on the museum owners Ford in one of the episodes (it looked like 1950's type colors and was a plausible 1950's paint job even though it never existed), I just think that they would somehow "botch" something on a GT.
Tonight they did a repeat episode. A 1968 Camaro, wouldn't ya know.

I just don't get the feeling that they'd do an MG, Triumph, Opel, Alfa Romeo Dino or Spyder, etc. Too small, too not overpowered, too fuel efficient, too Un-American.

They tend toward the American hot rod with flames, big V-8, etc. I think that they like the exaggerated "Monster Garage" type of hype and depend on that for their ratings.

Still, a GT would look great as the finished product and it would attract much of the audience who have probably never seen one.

The GT would be a good car for Overhaulin'.
Chances are they'd approach it like it was a ricer (careful there).
Through OpelGTSource they could get the Lenk Tuning kits including flared fenders, air dam, and spoiler, even a Carerra body kit. Rather than a V8 swap, they could get a 2.4 and 5-speed from, again, OGTS.
And yeah, they'd probably go way over on the stereo unless they realized they could never get enough power from even an aftermarket alternator. But I could see some potential to build a sound chamber in the luggage area behind the seats.
Picture the rear jacked up on over-sized tires, and a 3D flame paint job.
