I hope this doesn't come across as morbid. However, recently I was thinking about some of the friends we have lost who were on these forums, and were often friends outside our mutual Opel hobbies.

I realized that after the initial outpouring of grief, a lot of times the relevant threads get lost in the archives. Members who only occasionally get online may have no clue that someone has passed at all.

My thought was to put together a list (which can be updated as needed) of members who have passed away. This time of the year is always tough for me because I lost my sister in early December many years ago. I also lost two friends from these forums in early December too. This is just my way of wanting to remember them I guess.

Here is the list I've started. Please feel free to add others or correct any mistakes, and I'll update the list. Thanks.

Excellent idea Bob, the only one I can think of to add to this list, but, can't remember his name, he was the original editor of "The Blitz".

John Seaman. I'll have to find the date, though I remember his death was very unexpected. Thanks for that.

When I find out that a member has passed, I put an (RIP) after their username and remove their email addy from their profile.

I attempted to create a special Usergroup several years back but was not able to get it to work properly. There is an 'In Memorium' forum on the alt-opel site.

Was John Seaman ever a forum member here?

Riley Taylor

Bob, You bring up a good point, There are some really Good Opel people we don't remember. When I first Got wind that there was a Opel Club back in the 80's ( the first Opel Club) It was called The North American Opel GT Club and the Editor and President was this Great Retired Guy Known as Riley Taylor I think he died in the late 90"s He was my first place to go for support back in the 80's. He started the 1st tech tips in a flyer type mailer newsletter... and this is where I learned Of a Shop, C&R Small Cars, in Newington, CT and a shop in Brookfield, CT as Bill Daley My first Opel Friends

Riley Taylor, if anybody else can remember .. 'A great Opeler (RIP)'

Lyndon Elliott CIARA1970 Hammond, IN was a Good member here. He sold tons, and tons, of NOS Opel parts on Ebay. I was shocked when he died, I think he died in 2010 .. He was everybody's friend .. RIP Lyndon.

Bob, I have been a member since 2002 and knew some of the people that have passed away. Many of these folks were instrumental in the early days. If it were not for them, my GT would still be a mess. What I mean is the information provided by this forum is invaluable, and without it, I would still be trying to figure things out. I don't want to make the list for a while, but I am glad that you have started it. It is not at all morbid, it is a reminder of the folks that went before and made a lot of information available that just isn't available any where else. Thanks for thinking about the list, and more importantly, thanks for making it. I sure it will be updated as others read about it.

I should also thank our site founder, Gary.

Thanks again Bob and Gary.

I just updated the list Lyndon Elliot's name.

I'm looking for the dates of the passing of Riley Taylor, and of Tom Thevenin right now.

There's also a guy, I'm embarrassed to say, whose last name eludes me. His first name was Don, and he was from Tennessee. He bought parts from me for years when I had C & R. I can hear his voice in my head still. 'Hi Bob, it's Don ......', very frustrating!

An internet search turned up a Thomas L. Thevenin, who passed away December 13, 2000 in Florida. It also says he was previously from Virginia, which would jive with him working in Virginia and retiring in Florida, which I know to be true. 69 years of age.

Can anyone confirm is this is the correct person?

Noble effort to keep the memory of members that are not with us any more. Hope the list will not change for a long time.
Gary, please correct spelling error of the thread title. Its should be spelled In Memoriam.

Would't that be the guy from Opel Parts and Service? I'm pretty sure he moved to florida, as mentioned.
