So, in the continuing saga that is my search for a '67 Kadett front end, I stumbled across a windfall today. I was given a '70 Opel Kadett fastback. It has a good running 1.9 with an automatic and is almost perfect as far as the body goes with only 75,000 miles.

The problem is what to do with it. I could use some of the parts, and the nice Rally on e-bay hasn't even been able to muster-up $1500, so parting it out might be an option. On the other hand, it is a nice running, good looking, plain-jane vanilla version of my wagon and I'm tempted to just drive it around for a while or try to sell it.

What should I do? Any suggestions?

Great looking car. Wish I was closer. Its the Sport Sedan model. Anyone care to guess how many of this style was sold versus, regular sedans or coupes? This is only the 2nd one like this I have seen since getting back into Opels 5 years ago.

$

I knew for sure it was an odd Kadett when the DMV started giving me grief for paying "a lot less than what it's worth." I asked what they meant, and their computer came up with a $2200 book value, for an Opel Kadett! I dismissed it as some wierd, twilight zone-esque, clerical error, but it is the only one with that style of rear side windows I have ever seen. Both of my other fastback Kadetts had muck more curved side windows, without any real corners in the rear.

There is what looks to be a nice Kadett rallye on e-bay right now, and it is an easy days drive for me to look at or pick-up, if someone is interested. Check it out at:

OldOpelguy, I am a bit confused. Maybe its because I don't know how many Kadetts you have. You started this thread requesting a 67 front end. But in another thread you posted picture of a 70 or later Kadett. How many Opels do you have?

Regards

67 front- 70 back

My '70 Kadett wagon needs a new front-end due to a very poor accident repair, rust, and the previous owner trying to remove the engine from the top.

I have always disliked the turn signals and side markers on the '70 and up, and would prefer what I consider the "cleaner" lines of the '67-68 and their turn signals, markers, hood and grill. With this in mind, I would prefer to replace the rough parts with the front end I really want, so as to only have to do it once.

The damaged parts are starting to develop some of the ruddy brown Opel-eater, so at this point I am willing to be a bit more flexible. I have all the lights, housings, chrome, and trim for a '67 front end, along with the hood and grill, so I may just try to retrofit them into any good set of Kadett fenders.

I do, however, have another 3 wagons, 2 rallye's, and 4 or 5 sedans in outside "storage" in a particular yard back home in SD. All are rusty, and none are running, but they are all mostly complete. It wasn't too many years ago that over half of the Opels regestered in the state of SD were in my name...

Do you mean 66-67? Starting in 68 was the slight changes to the model.

I have wondered how the early front ends (66,67) might swap to 68 and up. I don't like the grill in particular, especially the wrap around pieces. Have wondered if I could put in a 66/67 grill on my 71 wagon. Or get one that fits from overseas where they retained the simplier grill, even in the later years.

Need more room

The decision has been made to sell the "free" Kadett.

I can keep the front-end for mine, so I need to get enough out of the whole car to cover another front-end, or at a minimum another hood, fenders, and nose in trade. If the interest is there, I may decide to e-bay the thing.

I will get more pictures posted in the classified area tommorrow, along with the details about the car. Being the oddball I am, I am open to almost anything in trade, and I am willing to drive a ways to deliver, so keep that in mind.

E-mail me directly at [email protected] so as to not waste more of Gary's hard drive space.

A couple of weeks ago I saw a 64-67 Kadette sitting next to a barn. Kind of greyish. And from what I could see driving by, probably pretty rusty. I didn't talk to anyone so I have no other info on it.

I still need a front-end.....

I put an add for the Kadett in the classified's. I have a lot of pictures available, and I'm certainly willing to trade almost anything. (Especially a front-end!) I can also deliver it anywhere between NY and SD for probably less than $100.

The price listed for the car is driven by what use it would be to me in parts and how different it is. You either love Kadetts or you hate them, and this is one that even people who hate them kinda like.

opelbits- check out the nose of that kadett, if you get a chance. I could swing by there on my way home in a couple of weeks.
