I replaced my front windshield gasket in my gt a few months ago which was ordered from OGTS. Every few days I get white and brown discoloration on the gasket all the way around it. Anyone else have this problem and does it go away with several cleanings? If I armorall it it isnt so noticeable but I dont want to do it every three days.

I replaced the front and back seals when I did the body and paint. Mine are doing it too and the baby sits in a garage all night or in a treeless parking lot all day- when school is on

Wash it!

Did you wash the rubbers in warm soapy water before fitting them?
It is the sulphur used in the rubber to cure it that is "blooming" and oxidising on the surface of the new rubber.
Clean it down with Methylated Spirits and paint the gaskets with tyre black paint and that may seal them and protect the surface from oxidation.

Worked in a Rubber factory for nearly twenty years ......... ;)

"Proper English"?

I have been speaking and writing "proper english" for nigh on fifty years! :p

"Tyre Black Paint" is a special paint used here to make rubber tyres look like new when the car has been serviced - given a "grease and change of oil".
Don't garages or service shops do that over there??

nope

The only time you see tires "painted" with anything over here Jim is once in a while on retreads and on mobile home tires, to keep them from cracking when the sit for a really, really long time. It might be some DOT rules or something. Fact of the matter is most Americans refuse to even look at their tires. Why else would 80% of the cars on the road here have tires inflated improperly? surely it isn't because people like to pay high gas prices and get poor economy.

tyre shine

We have armor all which is a white liquid that makes them look wet for a short period of time. I tried it and it doesnt last long and as much as I scrub these gaskets the brown crud keeps coming back. I guess eventually it has to stop doing it or there would be more complaints.

Here Too

We have ArmourAll (TM) here too but it is not hell of a brilliant stuff to use on rubber as it is silicone based.
Just went an got my tin of "RE-PO" Tyre Black from the garage - it is made by CRC Inc. !

"RE-PO Tyre Black" gives a deep, black satin finish to tyres, rubber mats, mudflaps etc.

"RE-PO Tyre Black" is long lasting, water resistant and is most effective for restoring the "new look" to old tyres.

"Water resistant natural rubber finish."

Nuff said - if our tyres were not painted by the service shop we would go else where!

"Methylated spirits ("metho") is a mixture of ethyl alcohol (95%) and methyl alcohol (%5). The methyl alcohol is poisonous and is added to prevent the methylated spirits being used as cheap drinking alcohol."

Also has a dash (0.5%) of Pyridine in it to make it unpalatable - except to the most hardened officinados - that is the component that makes ones breath stink ........ rumour has it!

Bud is a FAR CRY from a premium beer.

But there are others that would disagree with me. Im a beer snob and proud of it.

I'm glad I read this as I have new gaskets to go to my front and rear. They've been sitting ina box in the basement for a year and have no discolorization on them.

Denatured Alcohol

Methylated Spirits , is the same as Denatured Alcohol, here in the States, also you can get "Tire Black" with an "I" also here in the States (is the name on the can) made by DuPont (I think) at just about any automotive store, And yes you have to be near 50 to remember using it in the 60's and 70's on your car's rubber to make it shine before there was that junk they call Armoral or Son of a (b-) Gun, and for the naugahide interiors I use to use Mink oil or even baby oil to keep it soft and supple along with it keeping it shiney. and the good ol Chrome Polish and No Dull wool. If you can't find the "Tire Black" just wipe it down with the Denatured Alcohol, it won't hurt you paint but can remove you wax.

folks we are getting way off subject ........BUT im my honest opinion as a beer monster of some 30 odd years i think without doubt that the best beer is the one you first started with and grew to love (dog in my case, thats newcastle brown ale to those not in the know) the black stuff is ok lagers (that stuff the yanks call beer ) is not bad, but till you lose a week on dog and still find that you come back to life the day after you started drinking (a drink that takes you through time and space :D )you have not died

ps we in the old country have also worked out what a beer cooler does so have cold beer now

(it kills your taste buds so you will drink lager and think its good ) :D :D
