oil pressure relief valve leaking?

On the front of the engine on the drivers side simetrical to the oil filter there is an anodized yellow looking thing that has 2 hoses going into it and oil is leaking out of it very quickley like 1 drop a second. What is that thing and why is it leaking!!!

Fuel pump.

It is leaking either gas or oil. Gas could mean a bad pump diaphragm or bad/loose hoses.
Oil would be a bad gasket or two.

Its definatly oil. So is what your getting at is thats the fuel pump and the leak doesnt have anything to do with each other and the oil is just trailing off of it?

If it's the fuel pump, it has an internal oil seal that can fail and cause oil to leak past the push rod and then out the weep holes. I have attached a cutaway view and the next photo will be the legend. #5 is the oil seal.

I don't believe they are rebuildable (at least by a layman) but are only $37 from OGTS. I also see NOS fuel pumps on ebay from time to time. And you might try your local auto supply just to see if they have a listing. HTH

the fuel pump is brand new like a month old (i didnt install it, the previous owner did) i havent looked at it much but could it be some other gasket that the oil is leaking and is just trailing off at the fuel pump?

I'll ask the question then: Is there a spacer and two gaskets between the pump and the timing cover?

yes the spacer and the gaskets are there. but to my surprise i found out that the oil is leaking from the seal between the cast aluminium and the steel sheet metal cup. Is there a reason for this is? is it fixable?

Not fixable. You need a new pump.

That seems like a return because it isnt very old. And when I unbolt it are springs going to fly out?

Nope. Just don't break the phenolic spacer.

I have a brand new electric fuel pump would anyone suggest that I use that or should I stay with a mechanical one.

An electric fuel pump with a fuel pressure regulator is the way to go. I switched a week or so ago due to idle problems. Idle speed is much more consistant and the motor starts quicker also. The old mechanical pump just doesn't cut the mustard.

I was thinking of trying to find an electric at a junk yard. Any suggestions on which car I should try to get one off of?

what exactly is the fuel pressure regulator? the name is kind of obvious but how much do they cost? and how do I rig it up? and can i just bolt a plate over the hole where the old pump was?

i had the same problem when i first got my GT. i re-installed a mechanical pump but the local autozone store had a pre-regulated low-pressure electronic fuel pump for a little under $30.
