I'm twisted but here it is. There is a store that sells pretty much anything electrical or electronic related and specialize in the hard to get stuff. I measured a good original fuel guage sending unit for wire size and it's right at .010 mm. I found a roll of it there, now the quiz.

How many sending units can be fixed given a used length of wire is 19 inches per pound of wire?

I have 3.2 pounds of it, never bought wire by the pound before so that was odd. Anybody want a few hundred feet?

does is also have the same value in ohms/unit length? If it does not then you are SOL

Actually that's the easy part of it all. It was finding the right guage and coatings that was hard.

Dave, if that is Nichrome wire, you found some very thin safety wire that could be used on 4-40 castlelated nuts, if you could find them or an application for them. Maybe allen head bolts on model aircraft engines, if you could drill them. :D

If its Nichrome I'll take some!

Not an opel thing but I need to fashion a hotwire cutter for cutting poly-foam. I'd take a yard or two if the price is fair (cheap).

PM me if its nichrome and youd like to sell a few feet.

SASE and will a hundred feet or so be ok? It's a really big spool. BTW I restrung a sender and it's a bit low but definately managable with a very low impedence resistor.

Ron,

If this helps, the sender reads 3.3 Ohms Full and 89 Ohms empty.

The sender is linear but the tank is not, hence the "half tank" mark on the gauge is at 3/4.

I developed a gas tank/gas gauge cal chart which shows in 1/4 Gal increments the Ohmic value the sender should read.

I use it to check my gas level with a DVOM whenever my gauge is out or something is "under construction"

If you wish, I will mail you a copy.

JJ, thanx, but I already have the basic info on the 2 schematics you sent me. Could be you meant to address this to Dave, aka nobody. I'm gonna guess because of the shape of the tank, the sender wouldn't be completely accurate through the travel of the float. Either way the info is still helpful to those that need it. :)
