Usually the wire is broken that makes them inoperable. take a pair of calipers and a small piece of the existing wire to a motor repair shop and the chances are good they will have the right size. I've gotten lucky with Radio shack having the right size too. It has to be uncoated like for doing breadboards. Restring it and check continuity. I've hosed up and fixed so many Opel parts it's staggering to think of them all. Phospherous bronze is a good choice if the contacts are broken and if it's the cork float that's gone, cooking stores often sell cork lids by themselves for jars. then a light coat of epoxy and all done.
If the sending unit you need is for a Gt, I have a new one... less the cork float. I bought it off Ebay just for the cork. Now I have no use for it, since I only have Mantas. Just send me a PM if you're interested, price is very reasonable.
