I've got what should be a dumb question. Where can I get the fuel line to fuel tank connector for a 73 GT? I've been to several parts stores around here and all the clerks do is scratch their head and say "an Opel what?". I am guessing it should be a standard metric pipe thread or am I wrong? I'm new to the world of imports, should I go to a import dealership?. Any advice?

Opel GT Source has replacement steel lines, compression fittings and the union that screws into the tank as a kit. Look them up on the web at www.opelgtsource.com HTH.

When I looked, I couldn't find a metric pipe fitting with the proper metric compression fitting. So I replaced mine with an off-the-shelf metric/NPT oil pressure adaptor fitting into the tank. It was a "Make Waves" adaptor kit, #8093, comes with three adaptor sizes, and I used the M12x1.5 to 1/8" NPT adaptor (note that an M12 bolt is 12x1.75). It replaces the fitting that threads into the tank, which in turn had the compression fitting screwed into that. Then I used a short piece of copper fuel line, with a compression fitting to match it up to the 1/8" NPT female in the adaptor. The fuel line is curved right out of the compression fitting, where I placed an external in-line fuel filter (I removed the inner sock filter), which in turn connected to the stock nylon fuel line.
Here is a photo of the old piece; just envision a new "male by female" adaptor fitting, then a 1/8" NPT by 1/8" compression fitting, with copper (or whatever material you choose) pipe coming out of there.

Thanx for the advice folks. I spent a couple hour driving around looking for the parts to make the fitting. The one thing I got out of it was that I don't have a decent parts store near me. They have plenty of stuff to "pimp a ride" but not much in the way of useful parts.

Teflon Tape

Anyone recommend wrapping teflon tape on the male threads of the fuel line fitting that screws into the bottom of the fuel tank to insure a good seal?

Sure, you could do that, but a better reason to use it, is so it won't rust-weld to the tank fitting. Either that or anti-sieze compound on the threads, sparingly. :yup:
