Has anyone ever had Just Dashes restore a Manta dash, or even seen one?

Wow...hard to believe it's cheaper to have the thing shipped to Australia and back than to go to Just Dashes. Thanks for sending that link! They look to be every bit as good as Just Dashes. I requested a price inquiry and am anxious to see what they come back with.
Thanks

does anyone know if someone makes a fiberglass cover for the manta dash, like OGTS has had for the GT?

I know OGTS sells the dashmats for it but not sure.

The dash does not go to Australia, they have a place in Washington State.
Try this:

hmm...in reading their website it looks like the Washington office does nothing but handle daily bulk shipments to and from Australia via DANZA airfreight, and they have it setup such that everything is transparent to the N. American customer...to and from Australia, return freight, import duties, etc. all in the price.

Just read thru their website. Under "pricing" they state that for USA customers the dashes are shipped to their Washington State office and then COMBINED with other shipments to their Aussie office. So it seems that they do ship everything to Australia. No big deal in my opinion if the job is great. The pricing they quoted to USA was $400.00 - $500.00, all shipping costs included except for cost to ship to and back from Washington from our home.

I can only tell you this. When I had mine done, they waited about 8 weeks with my OK until the guy from Aus. came to the US because they had not done a GT here yet and they had done many in Aus.. I guess it does not matter as you say, but as far as I know, mine was done in Washington. Maybe they have changed their operation since mine was completed.

Well, I got my "quote" back from them:

"Hi Todd,

Sorry but we don't do this model."

Looks like if you have a manta you go to Just Dashes...I'll still try them for my GT dash. Just Dashes produces nice work but their prices seem ridiculous to me...almost like they have a monopoly.

i justed started my new job as a customs broker and i can see from the prices they charge to ship things over sea via air so i could see how they could get away with shipping the dashs to aus. and having them done there and still make money. maybe i could score there shipping area for my company and get better deals, but thats only a dream right know.

Gene got pics of a wagon one out of the car?

Just got this Email

Dave,

We are right now waiting for photographs and details from Gene Smith from
the Opel Club in order to price the restorations for club members.. We can
do virtually any vehicle provided it has a steel frame.

Regards, Jim

Yes dash restoration, seems Gene and I were thinking the same thing. Just because they haven't done one doesn't mean they can't.

Well, you certainly got a reply from them MUCH faster than me. As you can see from their response to my quote inquiry, they just summarily wrote me off. Keep us posted on your progress.

Wow;
I didn't realize this would become such a topic this quick. I did indeed send an inquiry:

"Hi You were recently sent a inquiry for a quote for a 71-75 Opel Manta A
> dash restore from a club member Todd Kirby and you reliped that you don\'t
> do this one. If you had one as a model/test, would you be interested?
> There are a growing number in our club that have Manta A and Ascona A
> (these use the exact same dash) that would like to get them restored.
> There is a company already doing GTs. But, no one does the Manta/Ascona A.
> Any interest?
> Thank you for your time,
> Gene Smith"

This is the reply I got:

"Hi Gene,

We would be pleased to look at it - perhaps a photograph could be a good
start. Can you also advise if they have steel frames please.

Regards, Jim"

I don't have a dash out of the car...yet...but, it would only take about 1/2 hour to extract one from the car and get some pics of it to send to them. I'll do that tomorrow, weather permitting (raining cats and dogs right now) and I'll get them off to these guys and see what happens.

Update Ii

Ok;
I got to work this morning and here's is what was in my e-mail from Dashboard Restorations:

"Hi Gene,

We can certainly restore these dashes, both models - formal quotation
follows.

For freight economics multi-unit shipments are substantially cheaper than
"one-off's"

Current exchange rate is around AUD$1 = USD$0.76.

Thank you for contacting Dashboard Restorations where we have specialised

in professional and genuine dashboard pad restorations for almost 20 years.

Our expert craftsmen use only the very finest materials and UV protected OEM
vinyl, and vacuum forming technology.

The cost to completely restore your unit is (Australian Dollars) AUD$460
plus AUD$25 export packing - ex factory Brisbane, Australia.

Please add AUD$23.00 should you require a color other than black - this
charge covers a professional colour matching service to ensure your dash is
absolutely identical to the color sample you need to provide us.

Whilst many original vinyl grain/texture are no longer manufactured our
finishes are almost identical.

Current turnaround is about 21 working days, and airfreight is around 3 days
to most parts of the world. Sea Freight is around 28 days.

Please contact your local freight agent, (eg: UPS, FEDEX, DHL etc), to
arrange shipping - we will return the unit, from our factory, on a "freight
collect" basis via the same nominated freight service.

Please address your unit to -

Dashboard Restorations,

6/4 Lancashire Street,

Acacia Ridge, Queensland 4110,

Australia

Also ensure to mark the parcel -

"Entering Australia under TRADEX Order 2003-355, Instrument 346879"

-this notation avoids any duty or taxes when your unit enters and leaves

Australia under an agreement we have with the Australian Trade Department.
Our services also include the very latest technology for resurfacing of
automotive woodwork and all other interior and exterior parts (up to 10'x4'),
in a host of surfaces including wood grains, carbon fibres and brushed
metals.

Our web site www.dashboardrestorations.com.au outlines these services in
more detail.

Payment is accepted by MasterCard or Visa.

We trust our quotation is to your satisfaction and look forward to providing
you the very best dashboard restoration available in the world today.

Best Regards,

Jim Kirk - Proprietor"

As you can see we now have a place to restore the Manta/Ascona dashes!!
Also, please take note of the price, $485 AUD = approx $370 USD! And also, those who are going to do this, please take note of the section on how to mark the package to speed up the turn around time.
Now, where did I put that other dash...... ;)
Gene
