What would be the estimated production month/year for a GT which is titled as a 1970 and has a VIN # 9419075xx? I know we have a lot of specialists here that can check in all kinds of databases for that ...
Thanks in advance,

Dieter

I mentioned in another thread that the owner's of the LBCs (Little British Cars) have ready access to this, and more, information, and can have it delivered on a rather attractive certificate suitable for framing. Not us, however, but I'll take a stab at making a guestimate based on the chassis number. Up until 1973, when chassis numbers were set to a federal standard, Opel's chassis number was a sequential assignment following a 2-digit prefix that identifies the model. Thus, with a chassis number for the beginning of 1970 of 94-1888818 and a beginning number for 1971 of 77-2265862, we might surmise that 377,044 Opels of various models rolled off the assembly line during the production run (2,265,862 minus 1,888,818 = 377,044). Subtracting the beginning number from your chassis number (I'll assume "xx" to be 00) gives us 18,682. Dividing one by the other suggests yours to be among the first 5% of the model year's run (18,682 / 377,044 = 4.95%).

Back in the day, German factories shut down for retooling in August, so September would be the first of eleven months of production. While intuitive, 5% of 11 gets you 0.54, suggesting your car was built in the first month, or September of 1969.

Just a guess. Here are beginning Chassis numbers (with the GT prefix) and total Opel production estimates for 1969-71. Because of the change in chassis number format in 1973, 1972 estimates are not available unless someone can come up with Opel's total production for 1972.

1969:
Beginning chassis number: 94-1535504
Estimated production: 353,314

1970:
Beginning chassis number: 94-1888818
Estimated production 377,044

1971:
Beginning chassis number: 77-2265862
Estimated production: 294,705

1972:
Beginning chassis number: 77-2560567
Estimated production: ??????

1973:
Beginning chassis number: OY0NC2944586

The yearly beginning chassis numbers differ here: GT Registry - Classicopels.com - Alt-Opel.US
I forgot where I got those numbers from.
I got my beginning production numbers here

These numbers coincide with the numbers provided by the parts manual that I have, except that the manual indicates a separate set of numbers for all 1972 models built in Antwerp, making estimates for that model year that much more difficult.

I wouldn't take too much Credence to it, for my vin # starts 942 Making it a 71, Is my door manufactured date shows as 01/70 My headlights have 3 Microsoft switches Install on 69 models, Wiring diagrams are 69, 70 That I use. From the dash to the wheels it is 1970. The vin # not so much according to this book?
